I don't think Aero looks all that great. The little blue loading circle next to the mouse is kinda cool, but I didn't like the rest of it. As for performance issues, my battery lasts longer without it, my computer gets less hot quicker and for some odd reason that I really don't think has to do with Aero, my wireless works fine. Before when I had Aero enabled, my wireless would just randomly cut out for like 20-30mins. Very aggravating. Now that I turned it off, wireless works fine. Now I know someone's gonna say that Aero has nothing to do with wireless, which like I said, I don't think it has anything to do with it. But just to check, I turned it back on and it started cutting out again. It's the weirdest thing.

And the funny thing is, it's just an animated cursor... you can use it on XP

Yeah, battery life is a beeyotch on Vista... I wouldn't use Vista on my MB on the road simply because of this.

Personally, I think Aero is {censored}. Sure Transparency...WOW, OMG WINDOWS HAS TRANSPARENCY...thats how a windows geek would react, No offence but i say:

Compiz-Fusion > Windows Aero

Microsoft should of thought further into Aero, Using Less memory and more performance.

Linux: Performance = Graphics

Windows: Performance < Graphics

I wholly agree with you. As a workhorse, an OS's resources are suppossed to be directed to function, not aesthetics. However, should they be put to beauty, then they should function the way mac os does, efficently. Microsoft should seriously rethink their priorities.

Do you get the feeling that hardware manufacturers like Intel and AMD are not keeping pace with software developers? You only need to read half of the issues in this forum to conclude that manufacturers and developers are not on the same page. Apple being both, is the only one that synchronizes both aspects, you think? Ithink I talk too much.

Thanks to your response. :(

Aero does take quite a bit of GPU and memory but it unloads itself when those resources are required for other programs like games

Bull... I have a FX-57 AMD CPU, ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe, 4Gb Corsair and 2 x 7800GTX in SLI.

Made the mistake to upgrade from XP to Vista.

I usually play WoW in window mode while watching a DVD in paralel in another window.

The framerate dropped in Vista at ~10FPS (from 90 in XP). If I was turining Aero off then the framerate would bump to ~35-40. So I have no idea what resources you're saying it unloads...

Still, Vista is a dog when it comes to performance. And the colors... ugh! It's like my kid's buggers when he has a really bad cold. Gradient from blue to green.

So, I downgraded back to XP and now I'm happy again. Lost a weekend though. Vista sucks big time!!!

And don't get me wrong: I used to be a Windows developer till about 8 years ago. And I'm not a Mac fan!

It's true. When you play a Full-screen game like Battlefield 2142, or BF2, it will turn off Aero and allocate the GPU power to the game, instead.
