I've finally gotten my SATA harddrives to mount in Read-Write. Now on to cloning my installation on to it!

It seems that you can't copy a live file-system - is that right? The DiskUtil image tools seem to fail, and tools like Clonehatch don't work at on leopard.

I should mention that I'm using a *piddling* 6gb PATA IDE harddrive that only have 400mb free to run my Leopard install (I found it in my closet. It was build in 1997 and I had written "OLD" on it in magic marker sometime within the last 10 years).

How do I go about cloning this beast? If none of the CD installations can mount the NForce SATA drives in read-write, and I can't install Leopard a 2nd time on this piddling HD, am I screwed?

If you have another PC with Windows on it, I don't see what you can't plug both HDs in and clone the PATA drive to SATA drive using Acronis Disk Director. I've done it before with a Windows OS and it works perfectly.

If you don't mind manually setting your IP address from then on, sure. I didn't notice any other problems, but YMMV.

See my sig for the link to the problems with that update and the tulip driver, that's all I have experience with.

SUCCESS! MSI P6N SLI Platinum. Took a couple days to follow the steps, but that did not deter me...NO! I prevailed.

The guide is pretty much perfect except for a few things. Maybe .NetRoller3d can update the guide.

- You NEED Pacifist 2.5.1, download it and have it available during the install.

- You NEED a secondary Ethernet adapter, the onboard one does not work. I ended up popping in a D-Link one I had laying around and lucked out.

- Step 9 - When you follow the BOOTFIX instructions and it says Unmount in step 3, exit out of terminal, and go to Disk Utilities, Unmount the disk onto which you are installing, return to Terminal and proceed with step 3 instructions.

- Step 13 - To add the startup instructions you put it in between the <dict>, under Kernel Flags entry, in between the <string> like this:<key>Kernel Flags</key><string>-legacy cpus=1</string>

- IF you are using an ATI graphics card you can skip steps 14-27, Proceed directly to step 28, Do not pass Go, Do not collect $200...

- Step 33 - This may just be me and my install, but there were only half of the items listed in the DO NOT INSTALL list that were actually listed. AppleIntelInteegratedFrameBuffer.kextIOHIDIXController.kextall the NVDAN Kexts 10,20,30,40,50,and the GeForce.KextHope that helps some folks....although this is now 6 pages deep.

use Pacifist to copy the system.kext off of the dvd, and replace the 10.5.1 with it. All is apparently well afterwards.

Cool. How about 2 cores? I am showing only one. Not a big deal. I did the whole Golden Kernel thing. Seemed to work. How do I know which kernel I am running? Do I need to take CPUS=1 out of the boot kext?

Are you trying to install? If so, boot the installer with the flags -x -legacy cpus=1. When booting to the osx, boot with -v legacy cpus=1. Thats what works for me. After I installed the golden kernel I dont need any boot flags.

yeah...f8... then -x -legacy cpus=1

BTW my computer no likey bootup without cpus=1...I guess I am stuck. Oh well.

Got USB workin'...now to get iLife

USB works for me, but it wont detect my ipod or iphone (just hard drives), anyone gotten theirs to work?

As for the cpus=1 problem, what processor are you running? Mine worked fine after installing the golden kernel and 10.5 update.

10.5.2 Install Tutorial- Update 02-12-2008 9:50 pm.

Tested method, should work 100%!

Use at your own risk and make sure to backup your files!

For those asking about the 10.5.2 update:

Here is the method I used to install the 10.5.2 update. I followed the install method on the first post to set my system up to 10.5.1.

1. Download the Kalyway 10.5.2 update installer (It can be found in the usual places. Then prevents the new kernel from overwriting the Golden Kernel and its kexts (for the most part)

2. Backup your /system/library/extensions folder. Back up all personal files just in case this install does not work

3. Install the Kalyway update. Don't reboot yet, open up your extensions backup folder and move IOHDIXController.kext back into your /system/library/extensions folder (it was overwritten in the install). By request I have attached mine to the post.

4. Open Terminal. Type "sudo -s" and hit enter. Type your password. Then type "chown -R 0:0 /system/library/extensions" and hit enter. Then type "chmod -R 755 /system/library/extensions.

5. Reboot now. Hit F8 before the bootloader opens and use the -v boot flag so you can see any errors or panics that happen. The system should reboot automatically before the OSX launches. Let it boot up normally.

Congratulations, you are now running 10.5.2 toh rc2 with the golden kernel! Everything should work properly (boot time was even faster for me)

Next on the plate is installing the graphics update. I'll do that when I get a chance and post my results.

My system.

follow the yellow brick road!

i.e. refer to post #1 of this thread and follow all 36 steps...A little time consuming...and confusing at times...but it works and works well.

I agree with the confusing part. I haven't seen any posts recently by the topic creator so I've been thinking about re-writing the guide with things I have found such as the SATA driver. There are also much easier ways to do the boot fix than the topic he linked describes.

jsheinz1234 - Unless you have a core 2 solo or did not install the 10.5.1 update after installing the golden kernel, then it was not installed correctly

gd666gd1- how did you do the boot fix? The easiest way is to boot from the dvd, open terminal, and type "cd /usr/misc/", hit enter, then type ./script.sh <yourvolumenamehere>". Make sure you replace the volume name with the name of the volume leopard is installed on (for me it is "./script.sh Hackintosh", and yes, capitalization does matter, if your volume name has capital letters then you need to type them as capital letters.). Then, go to disk utility, unmount the drive, and do the same thing in terminal again (I dont know why, but you have to). Then make sure you do this step from the original post:

Execute the command "cd /Volumes/Leopard/System/Library/Extensions; mkdir backup; mv NVDAResman.kext backup" (replace "Leopard" with the name of the volume you installed Leopard on). Hint: if you used the non-case-sensitive version of HFS+, you won't have to deal with capitals - except for the volume name.

Since you are installing from an SATA drive, I would disable the drive before you boot to OSX (seems to cause problems for me) until you get the SATA driver installed. The SATA driver can be found at: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=77071

Make sure you chown/chmod it after install.

Talon - Could you maybe re-write the golden install directions for me. I just re-tried last night prior to posting those screen caps.

here is what I did according to the instructions

- Unzipped the contents of Golden zip and put them on the desktop. 2 sh files and a couple folders as I recall (I am at work)

- Edited the postpatch.sh file with my short user name (same as my only user name - right?) there is only one place I see that needs to be edited. right at the beginning.

- open terminal cd'd to my desktop. Did the ./ command.

- Saw successful several times, but also saw several "cannot find file"s, specifically when it was looking for the leopard/ listings.

- After completion, I did not reboot. I pacifised the 10.5.1 update and installed all the bits and pieces except the specific ones.

- rebooted.

Should I do this as root? If so how do I do that? (FYI - Here is how to do that...)

Make sure you are using your short username. For example, if my username was "John Doe", my short username defaults to "johndoe"

What's your volume name? If its "Leopard" you are fine. Otherwise, you need to change it in the line right below the username. (Capitalization matters!).

When you open the terminal, make sure you enter the command "sudo -s", hit enter, the enter your password. This will give you administrative privileges (aka, root privileges). Then cd to the desktop and run the command "./9a581PostPatch.sh". Make sure you are running the 9a581PostPatch.sh file, not the 9a581patch.sh file.

Reboot, THEN install 10.5.1.
