Borreltje
Thank you all so very much for this great topic! I've been reading this for a week now and tonight I installed Leopard succesfully on my Toshiba Tecra S2. Had some trouble getting the vga (Nvidia 6600go) to work, but thanks to NVinject this works, sound works, lan works, just the wireless is not working yet. System: Intel Pentium 4 2 ghz 1 gig ram 60 gb hitachi hdd Chipset: Mobile Intel 915PM Express Chipset Integrated V.92 modem7 Integrated Marbell 88E8053 (on board) 1000 BASE-T Ethernet Integrated Intel Pro/Wireless Network Connection 2200BG also I am gonna try and get the bluetooth, tv-out, and IR port to work, but that's not really necessary. For now, I'm very pleased with the result I got, and that all in just a few hours of reading and two times trying! Thanks All!!!! wjj268
Again as written earlier - you must remove the original AppleSMBIOS.kext that is installed by brazilmac and copy over the new one from pc_efi check stells post a few back for the details what is PC_EFI ? is it what you guys call the AppleSMBIOS and dsmos kexts? or is it another program/patch or file? CPU: Intel 6550, but running gimped at 1066 FSB rather than full speed (1333) Motherboard: Gigabyte 945GCMX-S2 (3 trips to Frys to find a working one amongst the returns) Video: GMA950 - Resolutions stuck at 1024x768 even after copying over AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext Memory: 2 Gigs Buffalo 6400 DVD: TDK DVD-R IDE Hard Drive: 80Gig SATA Audio: AC888 with drivers from here Had to set SATA in the BIOS to "Combined" with the hard drive hooked up to SATA1 (Not SATA0) and the DVD set to master on the drive itself. Took me awhile but the dang thing finally booted. iWork, ILife, DVD player, and iTunes all work awesome. I'll probably tweak it a bit and get a bigger harddrive. Plus I'm not seeing preview video in iDVD. JonyBravo
QUOTE(JonyBravo @ Dec 11 2007, 06:50 PM) I am currently going through the motions outlined in the guide (post #1). I get into the BrazilMac install, do customize. Once the actual install starts, I get a big bad error screen stating: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Install Failed Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer The Installer could not locate the data it needed to install the software. Check your install media or internet connection and try again or contact the software manufacturer for assistance. Click Restart to restart your computer and try installing again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anybody have ideas why I encouter this? Could BrazilMac have patched my image incorrectly? im gonna go out on a limb and say that its because you patched a upgrade dvd instead of a full install dvd. Thanks again Riot. This time I broke down and bought Leopard Full Retail. Made an image, patched it with BrazilMac (no errors reported by script). Again, installed via Kalyway, then booted patched leopard. Same message comes up Sad day indeed. I go to customize but it says "upgrade" (which I assume is correct). I'm left wondering exactly what is "missing"? What is "could not locate the data it needed". What does Kalyway do that a working Uphuck install won't do (which I have working 99%)? I know, lots of questions, but hard to find answers. robust
i actually used the ToH install disc because that is what I had. but i booted into the installer and installed the dsmos.kext and new AppleSMBIOS.kext, repaired permissions, installed efi_v8 per teh guide at osx86scene but when i boot, i get all the way through the verbose mode junk but get stuck at the blue screen just about to login. no login window comes up though. it trashes the hd for a minute or two and then just hangs. something i seemed to have missed is when you installed the vanilla kernel in your guide? does the brazilmac image have a vanilla kernel until you run the postpatch or what? and would this be the same for the ToH or do i have to track down a vanilla kernel from some other source? thanks. JonyBravo
Well, we have a few people with success stories. We have WAY more with non-success stories. So far I am one of them. I have followed: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=513358 I have also followed: http://forum.osx86scene.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2008 Now I consider myself failry capable at understanding the terminal window, and other things. But nothing I have followed has allowed me anything resembling a succesful Leopard install. The best progress I have made so far: - Start with a fully working Uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4 r3 - Installed BrazilMac patched Image from a Full Retail version of Leopard - Booted back into Tiger (Uphuck) - Applied the post-patch script (edited so it can find the files on the USB HD). It did not find a dsmos.kext to delete. - Reboot = You need to restart your computer. This is further than I have gotten all week. Semi-promising. I just can't figure out how to get any further. Once again I am restoring to my Tiger. Hints appreciated. gosse
Hey Onetrack-- Thank you *so much* for this. It's the first and only guide I used as soon as I got my parts together, and I'm happy to say I'm typing this from my brand new Mac! Everything's working, as far as I can tell, though I haven't tried Time Machine yet. I got sound to work with the HDA Patcher. The only problem I'm having is with sleep. It works only half the time, for reasons unclear to me, and it almost never works when I try to wake the computer up immediately after it's gone to sleep by pressing a key on my keyboard--although it does wake up instantly when I plug in or unplug a USB device. The other weird thing is that sound is always gone when the computer wakes up. I have to restart the machine to get sound back. Any ideas why? Unfortunately Weaksauce's great guide for Badaxe2 (which happens to be my MB) came out just one day after I was done setting my machine up. I did notice a few differences his guide and yours--Weaksauce adds IONetworkingFamily as an extension to be replaced during patching. Could Weaksauce explain why he did this? Could this have anything to do with the sleep or sound issue that I mentioned? Thanks again! Any help would be appreciated. My setup: Intel 975XBX2KR (Badaxe 2) Intel Q6600 @ 2.4 2x2 GB RAM (G.skill) ASUS EN 7300GT WD 500GB SATA2 HARD DRIVE Running Leopard (10.5.1), EFI v5.2 Xbench: 171.46 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/72493-leopard-perfect-install/page/24/#findComment-539788 Share on other sites
Stravaganza
Stravaganza, Onetrack,Here it is !! All is ok. Theproblem was as said the AppleIntelIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext. My GMA950 1440x900 works perfectly. Now I've seen that i don't have sleep mode, no battery icon and my samsung 120Go FAT32 formatted external drive isn't detected. I will look for some drivers... Thanks a lot Congraturtions, gui31! I am glad you did it. I honestly do not know the answer to your question. I guess one kext is not that bad. I have five kexts to be check every time. I have one question for ya. How did you make keyboard and trackpad work? Currently I need AppleACPIPlatform and ApplePS2Controller from BrazilMac to be installed. Everything is fine except keyboard and trackpad are acting wierd after they wake up from sleep. Also reboot doesn't work. (It is acting as shutdown.) Did you install ApplePCINUB or did something else? I couldn't find ApplePCINUB. --S Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/72493-leopard-perfect-install/page/24/#findComment-539824 Share on other sites
gui31
Hi Stravaganza, Yes with the ACPIPS2NUB.kext keyboard, mouse and trackpad are ok. Somebidy propose this file in a topic but i don't remember where. If you will need it, I will send you. Other question: Do you have an answer for my usb external drive 120 Go SMASUNG FAT32 not working ?? I tried usbProber but nothing changed. Is there any kext to change. This drive worked with Tiger 10.4.9. DO you know where I can find these kext so as to replace them. I don't find them on my Tiger DVD installation... Last quetion: how to make the sleep function work ?? la_mer
hi everyone...I got some questions here: 1.With 945GC mobo, how about the AHCI issue which has been a trouble for many P965 and P35 users? How about the disk speed of the SATA drives? Is it turned slow? 2. I'm going to get 2 hard drives to install Leo and WinXP separately. Is it better and less trouble than just installing 2 os in 1 hard drive with partitions. Besides, how you guys to do the multi-boot with this method. Thank you very much. documentaryman
Using an ASUS P5KE-WIFI and a Q6600 and a NVIDIA 8800 GTS, I got a pretty good install going of Leopard 10.5.1. I only have a few minor problems. 1) Realtek 8187L does not work. 2) USB Reader disconnects itself from time to time 3) Cannot run printer driver installer 4) Cannot run Acrobat Reader 8 installer. However, everything else seems okay, iLife '08 is good, Adobe CS3 works (can't run update for Illustrator) ...after SMBIOS.kext fix. I run of an external USB2 drive so my PC remains untouched but I can get at the files if I need to. I'm probably not going to use it as a REAL computer but just as a fun hobby. My method was very simple. Used ToH DVD, applied Postinstall patch and ran bootfix patches and that was about it. After installng 10.5.1 had to reinstall Postinstall (Brazilmac) patches. And just hat SMBIOS fix to get CS3 (Photoshop) to run. Adobe admits CS3 has some problems with Leopard anyway so I'm ahead of the game on that one. In other words, even though I'm new to this, it wasn't very hard.
