Urbz
As we all know, holding F12 eject the optical drive. Drives with physical buttons will not eject by pressing these buttons, and must be ejected by holding f12 or dragging the drive icon to the trash. Would it be possible to disable the physical button from ejecting EVEN WHEN A DISK IS NOT PRESENT? could someone point me in the right direction? thanks, Urby. Urbz
really? My laptop's a hp dv4000, gma900, dual-layer dvd burner. Maybe the fact that it's a laptop has something to do with it? i am also on os x x86 (10.4.3 F1111g). Wierd that mine doesn't and yours does... HoS
my OSX86 desktop with 2 dvd drives (one a recorder) will eject using the drives eject button only if no disc is present in the drive. I belive this is normal operation. I suspect Careless might have a drive whose firmware doesn't properly support the locking command Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7208-f12-and-the-eject-function/#findComment-45018 Share on other sites
Urbz
gotcha. any way of tricking it into thinking there IS a cd? or better yet, could someone tell me which kexts are used for the cd/dvd drive? HoS
Well I'm not much for editing Kexts so maybee someone else could comment on that, but if you just want to disable the eject button on the drive it would be easy to open the drive and unsolder it (or even cut it off) then just reassemble the drive. Careless
my OSX86 desktop with 2 dvd drives (one a recorder) will eject using the drives eject button only if no disc is present in the drive. I suspect Careless might have a drive whose firmware doesn't properly support the locking command you know what.... i'm wrong. i remember ejecting the disc as macosx was loading. that is what made the difference. yes my drive is currently locked right now with the Mac OSX dvd in the drive. not ejecting =/ Edited January 19, 2006 by Careless Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7208-f12-and-the-eject-function/#findComment-45105 Share on other sites
jeffberg
the cd drives that come in powermacs have the button disabled i would say in a normal ide drive, just go in there, take the faceplate off and remove the actually button that lies behind the plastic one that you push. but on a laptop that probably is not an option Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7208-f12-and-the-eject-function/#findComment-45144 Share on other sites
