laatmaarzien
Hi! After much blood, sweat, toil and tears I managed to get 10.5.1 installed on my 965P-DS4 system, with E6600 conroe overclocked to 3.0 GHz. However, in my System Profiler and in Geekbench, the OS detects the speed as 2.4 GHz. I am stumped by this. Before, when I had just changed the Kernel from ToH to the Brazilmac's version it showed me the speed correctly. Is there a performance loss here or is the OS simply not able to read the OC'd CPU speed.. in which case, does it perform at 3.0 GHz or is it throttled at 2.4 (stock speeds). Any help, highly appreciated! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/71764-overclocked-cpu-detected-at-normal-speed/ Share on other sites
PhantOS
It's probably reporting the clock speed 'burned' into the chip, while actually running at 3.0ghz. I'd run some benches with the cpu clocked to 2.4 and 3 from the BIOS, to be sure. Let us know. What efi_pc version are you running? Clock detection came in a later version, IIRC. Templeton Peck
As PhantOS said, the OS is simply reporting the speed burned onto the chip; not the actual speed. If you install Wine or CrossOver, and then run CPU-Z, it will report the actual speed. In other words, OS X didn't "undo" the overclock.
