What metric(s) do you believe represent "memory in use"?

Well, here's my G4 10.4.4 hot from boot:

Processes: 41 total, 2 running, 39 sleeping... 131 threads 07:29:22

Load Avg: 0.46, 0.26, 0.11 CPU usage: 0.9% user, 3.7% sys, 95.4% idle

SharedLibs: num = 128, resident = 23.3M code, 2.86M data, 7.25M LinkEdit

MemRegions: num = 3271, resident = 29.4M + 5.84M private, 35.8M shared

PhysMem: 52.0M wired, 51.8M active, 66.5M inactive, 170M used, 597M free

VM: 2.94G + 82.1M 9552(0) pageins, 0(0) pageouts

Notice memory useage is 170 MB. I'd like to know what the memory useage of 10.4.4 on a REAL Intel iMac is.

Paste your TOP here from a fresh bootup (no services running, preferably).

Memory usage differs even if the size of the total RAM is different. Don't think we will ever compare apples ( :) ) with apples here

G4 Server with 1.75 GB of RAM at work (running some network services):

10.3.9

Processes: 70 total, 2 running, 68 sleeping... 126 threads 20:03:09

Load Avg: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 CPU usage: 2.6% user, 14.5% sys, 82.9% idle

SharedLibs: num = 105, resident = 23.9M code, 2.66M data, 7.36M LinkEdit

MemRegions: num = 7292, resident = 36.7M + 4.70M private, 24.8M shared

PhysMem: 114M wired, 62.4M active, 65.8M inactive, 242M used, 1.51G free

G5 Server with 1.5 GB of RAM at work (running all kinds of network services):

That's all I was looking for... but from the new CoreDuos.

Why would you expect the numbers to have anything to do with the processor type?

Memory usage in the system is related to what applications are doing, not what order the bits are arranged in...

Because I would like to determine if OSX on the iMac Core-Duos is more memory-hungry than on the PowerPC. I know from experience that the memory useage of the OS is much greater on the DTK, but that may have been due to "debug" code implemented.

I'm looking for people to just simply post their memory used/free for analysis. Why is this so difficult, and why the arguments? Not interested? Skip the thread, then.
