I have no idea... I can leave it blank, or change to ACPI, or X86PC, or ACPI|X86PC and I dont notice a difference in performace or errors or anything between them.. I question whether or not this actuall has any effect on the system haha has anyone tried changing it to some nonsense and seeing if it gives off an error?

I believe changing the platform has some effect on the address of your hard disk. Try this: run without the command and use the "-v" kernel flag. Pay close attention to what the root device is (/dev/disks1) or there abouts. When I use the X86PC flag, the root address changes to /dev/disk0s1, so what I did was boot using the rd=/dev/disk0s1 and that solved my problems.

As for the difference when adding X86PC, I've noticed that the OS has more connectivity with the motherboard, for example, when you reboot or shutdown, it acts like any ATX mobo and powers down or reboots, whereas in the other mode (ARCH?) it will just say "rebooting" or something without doing anything. Hope this helps.

Can somebody help me please??

Everytime i boot with the platform=x86pc option, i get a kernel panic.

Why is this??

Can somebody help me?

Thx!

If using "platform=x86pc" fails for you, then don't use it. It's that simple. Some machines need it, some machines (like mine) need platform=acpi, some machines don't care.
