What's the closest Motherboard, Processor, Etc. You able to buy to come closest to the new Intel iMac? I looked to see if their is a topic on this and I can't find it so here it is.

With the specs that would be closest would the latest leak (10.4.3 yes¿) work right off the image or would the drivers getting put on here work with it?

I know the processor is brand new and all so how much would something like this cost? Would it be $1k+ with a GB of RAM?

Lastly anyone here think the retail OS X 10.4.4 will work with such a spec. config after being craked? I mean would the hardware work?

I know I sound out of it and I apologize but I bet a lot of people are like me just recently got an iMac G5 (March 04' I did 1.8 G5 20") and will not spend another $1,600 less than a year later. I would love to get a beige box that would work with the latest developer 10.4.3 or even a machine everyone thinks will work on 10.4.4 once any type of crack comes out.

Thank you all in advance from the forum noob.

I recommend the Pentium D 920. I just ordered one for ~$250.

Now, for a motherboard, I reccomend an Intel D945G series board. It has an Intel GMA 950 graphic chip that is the only thing the works well right now. I am trying to order a full featured one (with FireWire (IEEE 1394a) and Gigabyte Ethernet) for ~$140.

You can pick up an ATI x1300, x1600 or x1800 depending on your needs later, after we figure out if they are even going to work or not.

You can certainly get start with 512MB of RAM, but you should not see diminishing returns until you hit 2GB for general use. If you want to go at full speed get make sure you buy modules in pairs for dual channel.

Well, you can certainly build something with less expensive parts.

You can get a Celeron D for about $70, probably find a 915 chipset motherboard without a GMA chip for about the same and just get some junk video card to through in for cheap and run it in VESA mode (because that is all most people have working anyways).

I Am lookin at about $809 with everything I want:

Intel D945GTPLR

Intel Pentium D 920 2.8Ghz (3.01 I heard is stable)

Geil Dual Channel 512x2 DDR2 667Mhz

Seagate 300GB SATA

Lite-on 16x8x16x DVD DL +/-

Case And Power Supply (500Watt)

If one has money to spend, I do recommend the 930 instead of the 820 or 830. Just because it has VT, which I'm sure will be used in OS X at some point...

Umm... why the 930 over the 920?

3.0 GHz is the same as 2.8 GHz in my book, why pay more for almost nothing?

OnSale.com has the 920 for $255.99: http://www.onsale.com/onsale/shop/detail~dpno~709635.asp

MWave has the 930 for $322.00 http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch.hmx?SCriteria=BA22216

That's a 25% increase in price for less than a 10% increase clockspeed and much less in performance.

Not a good a deal.
