I'm having a few problems. First off, my display is stuck at 1024x768 and even after i installed the ATI drivers from ATI's site for OSX (which didnt reconize my 9800 pro) i couldnt select anything still.

Performance is terrible, slow as molasses and takes forever to do somthing.

internet was also very slow, 20KB/s when it should be about 480KB/s

This is a NATIVE install

AMD Sempron 3100+ 754 1.8GHz

1GB PC3200

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

Nforce 3 Chaintech

30GB 7200RPM

To fix the resoluton...

1. Find this file, copy it, and paste it on your desktop -->> com.apple.Boot.plist

2. Right click on the file (the copy now on your desktop), and choose 'Open with..', then choose 'other', then choose the program called 'Text Edit' in your applications folder.

3. Change the following string to your desired resolution...

-------

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280×1024x32</string>

-------

and then paste just like the following example (in bold).

------

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string></string>

<key>Boot Graphics</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280×1024x32</string>

</dict>

</plist>

-------

4. Save the changes.

5. Open 'NetInfo Manager' (found in the 'Utilities' folder), and click on the Lock icon in the lower left hand corner, type your password, and hit 'OK'

6. Drag your altered 'com.apple.Boot.plist' back into its home folder... (YourDisksName/Library/Preferences/System Configuration). You will be asked to authenticate, and then it will ask you if you want to overwrite the existing file (choose yes, of course).

7. Reboot, and enjoy your new resolution. If for some reason you screw it up, there is a way to reverse the changes while outside of OSX, but I can't remember how to do it.. So if you screw it up ask around here for help..

As far as the speed issues go, all I can say is search the forums. Someone has probably already had the same problem and probably resolved it already. Try booting using -v, and that will often give you the clue to whats going wrong.

I know now its not the install as I have put the hard drive in an external adapter, and although it took 5 min to boot, once it was up, it was just like the mac G5 at school

Laptop is a Pentium M 1.4GHz (SSE2), 512MB, ATI 9200.

Thinking it might have somthing to do with me having an AMD?

I'm running an AMD Athlon64X2 3800+ no problems. Have you tried deleting AppleTPMACPI.kext? deleting this really sped things up for me.

Soo, did you ever try -v? That will often tell you the exact problem if there is one.
