manitoba98
In the developer builds, it was possible to make Time Machine use an internal partition for backup (perhaps using .com.apple.timemachine.supported, I'm not sure). Is this still possible in GM, or was it, like Airport Disk, removed? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69415-local-time-machine/ Share on other sites
exscape
Do you mean a partition on the same hard disk, or a separate backup disk? I'm hoping for the latter, since if not, backups are a complete waste of time and space. djh816
exscape, not true. if he accidentaly deletes a file, he could recover it. sure if the disk ecome corrupt, he's probably screwed but there is still a valid point for doing it that way. Embio
if you are using a laptop you could add a second hard drive in place of the optical drive with an adaptor from MCE Technologies, I cant see a reason why that wouldnt work with Time Machine... Adrian Fogge
Here is what I have set up. I have TimeMachine configured to operate locally on my Macbook Pro by having two partitions... One 200 GB, one 38 GB. When I am home, I have my Airport Disk and an rsync script that is set to run whenever I am connected to my home network. This backs up my Time Machine partition to my Airport, giving me both the redundancy of an external backup as well as timely backups taken at regular intervals. That is not to say that I would not be much happier if ZFS were implemented so that ALL snapshots are kept at all times. Then I could still use my rsync script to keep the redundancy. Still, can't wait for WWDC08. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69415-local-time-machine/#findComment-493187 Share on other sites
