realfolkblues
Time machine does not support backup via samba connection. this means almost all NAS drives are worthless. Looks like they really want us to buy an airport router. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/67790-timemachine-no-samba-backup/ Share on other sites

hecker
Yeah, that blows. But at least there's project hummingbird: http://lexar.sharpcast.com/lexar/hummingbird_lexar.html hecker EDIT: Hmm, maybe it would be possible to mount a HFS+ sparse image from an NAS drive and use time machine with that. bundeswerner
There are two easy ways of Using a Network Drive for TimeMachine backups: Way 1: Create a growing Diskimage on the Network Drive, mount it, and you should be able to select it as Destination in the TM PrefrencePane Way 2: Execute defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1 in Terminal, log off, log in, select the Network Drive in the PreferencePane, be happy I'm using the second way to back up my MacBooks HDD on a samba share (maxtor shared storage II) over WLAN. Greetings, bundeswerner Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/67790-timemachine-no-samba-backup/#findComment-499807 Share on other sites
