VIDEO NO! you will nead to get a new video card

sound realtek 888 yes

sata has to be set to Ich 7 in the bios

lan yes will work with some tinkering

To get your Yukon 88E8056 Ethernet to work, you need to add your device id to the AppleYukon.kext.

you have to do this manualy

in tha applications / utils there is a program terminal open it

Go to Terminal and type: ( actual ly Copy and paste because you have to type it exactly.)

sudo su <--- give pass word

cd /System/Library/Extensions <-- changes directory

sudo nano IONetworking.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleYukon.kext/Info.plist <-- edits file

(find and change: <key>Yukon-88E8053</key>)

(to: <key>Yukon-88E8056</key>) <-- change "53" to "56"

(find and change: <string>Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8053</string>)

(to: <string>Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E8056</string>) <-- change "53" to "56"

(find and change: <string>0x436211AB</string>)

(to: <string>0x436411AB</string>) <-- change "62" to "64"

(press Control-O) <-- saves changes

(press Y and Enter) <-- accepts saving to existing file

(press Control-X) <-- exits nano

sudo chown -R root:wheel IONetworkingFamily.kext <-- repairs permissions

cd /System/Library <-- changes directories

sudo rm -rf Extensions.mkext Extensions.kextcache <-- rebuilds kextcache on reboot

Then reboot.

good luck to you

I would be adding a videocard anyway. so, do u use this chipset? Is the network after the fix stable? any other issues I should know about? Do you have a recommendation on videocards? Only certain cards will fit into the shuttle. I would prefer nvidia. I will be dual booting this with xp hopefully. Thanks for your detailed instructions, I really appreciate it.

I just tried my new set based on the following components:

Shuttle PC Barebone SG31G2B

Intel Core2Duo E8400 2x 3Ghz

2x2Gb Kingston Valueram PC6400CL5

XFX Geforce 7600GT 256Mb

Panasonic DVD-R106

WD RE2 SATA 500Gb

First time I started I got no video. I used the onboard VGA port. This does not work. I moved my monitor to the DVI-1 port on the Geforce and I got image.

In the Bios I chose "Load Optimize Defaults" and all processorfrequencies were set right to match the E8400

Setup of 10.4.8 worked including the NV40 extension for full 7600GT support. Perfect.

The system shows a 3ghz CPU with 2 cores, bus speed is 1333 mhz, Memory speed is 800 mhz. All perfect.

I followed the Yukon extensions modification as described above, and that worked perfectly.

Three problems though:

My monitor does not wake from sleep.

I have no sound support

The fans run maximum speed all the time.

Does anybody have idea's to fix that?

So whats the scoop, did it work and are you still running it? I have been playing around with my Shuttle SG31G2 for some time now and am not able to get a stable build.

I have tried vanilla (preferred)

I have tried Kalyway

I have tried Chameleon

They all work to some extent but I wanted to know which is best and works with mac updates. Each time I try to update to 1.5.5 my system stops booting into OSX.

Any specific help on the Shuttle would be much appreciated!

Just wanted to see if anyone had successfully gotten the audio Input (mainly mic) to work with the headphone jacks on the front of the SG31G2. Ive had my shuttle dual booting iPC OSx and Win XP for a bit but I still cant get the mic to work while in OSx. Ive got the realtek 888 installed and have good sound output but cant mic operational. Any suggestions would be helpful.
