. . you may find this thread [& the utility it links to] useful.

[edit] you will of course need to unzip any *.kexts before installing them. To do this, right-click any folder, choose 'enable folder actions' . . then thereafter you can right-click any *.zip & choose: 'open with BOMarchivehelper"

I have got the networkingfamily.kext zip and also my sound.kext zip and have got them onto my mac. all good so far. wot the hell do i do with them now? they are on the desktop.
Search for a utility called Kext helper, the beta6 release will allow you to insert and install them onto your system by automatically performing all the chown chmod taks for you etc. All you need to do is type in your password and drag the kexts (unzipped of course) to the program window! Then reboot, good luck!Cheers, Mark

. . yup; even down to the careful (& in my case, as an afterthought) mention of unzippery :D

thank you so much guys. i now have networking. the internet is working and so is my home network so i can now transfer files without wasting serious amounts of cd's. no sound as of yet but i think that might be to do with which connection of sound card i'm connecting to. will let you know. thanks again.I HAVE SOUND TOO!!!! :dances around house like an idiot: lol

i'm a lil confused. I would have thought there would be sounds when osx starts up and when the dock comes up for instance. have i become too used to windows? lol
. . you'll need to start searching these forums: the mac startup boing is AFAIK a hardware feature; but doubtless once in OSX you can give sounds to events of your choice.
