After trying 7.10, I haven't used Vista or OS X since. Ubuntu is getting close to the mainstream. If you haven't tried it in a while, give the cd a shot. You have nothing to lose by trying the cd without installing. You can read about my experience with Ubuntu 7.10 at http://nkelber.wordpress.com.
