Hello

I installed OSx86 10.4.3 Build 8F1111 yesterday.

At first start up both mouse and keyboard worked.

At second login, either mouse or keyboard worked...

I tried to reboot but that didn’t help...

Hardware:

Logitech MX510 Mouse - USB cable (converted to ps2)

Logitech "Elite" Keyboard d- USB cable (converted to ps2)

My devices are connected to a kvm switch. So I thought that could be the problem..

But then I disconnected the devices from the kvm switch and connected them direct to the computer, But it didn’t helped...

So I removed the ps2 converter on both mouse and keyboard, but that didn’t helped either..

So must be some drivers or something..?

Plz help :laser:)

I'm having a very similar problem. I'm using a USB mouse that has worked about twice when I boot into OSX natively. It hasnt worked since and i'm not at all sure whats causing it.

I've tried:

Un-plugging the keyboard and plugging it in when OSX has loaded.

Plugging in a PS2 keyboard and then plugging in thr USB keyboard when OSX has booted.

Disabling USB 2 in bios and leaving 1.1 enabled.

Changing setting in BIOS from SHADOW to Base 640k (not sure what this is)

Plugging in BOTH my USB and PS2 keyboard and booting into OSX natively.

My USB mouse works fine in OSX so i tried swapping to keyboard into the USB port the mouse uses after booting.

None of the above worked at all, and then I gave up and went to sleep after about 2 hours of fiddling about and checking forums in XP and then booting back into OSX86.

Finally i woke up the next day and suddenly OSX86 is asking to identify the keyboard! It asked me to press the key to the right of the left shift key so i did and the keyboard worked fine for that session.

When i re-booted, the keyboard stopped working again!

I understand people not bothering to help with problems here when people are lazy and dont try to research and fix things themselves, but i've truly exhausted my options here.

Anyone got any suggestions?

It works now :-) Dont know how...

I plugged in a ps2 mouse/keyboard.. didnt worked.. but after a couple of reboots it worked ?!

I removed 2 files from the Extensions directory..

- AppleFPMemDriver.kext and AppleTPMACPI.kext

I shut down the computer, unplugged ps2 mouse/keyboard, then connected the usb devices..

now it works with my usb devices, kvm-switch :))

OS x86 works great / stable to...

Saddly I got a new problem.. my soundcard isnt working at the moment.. (realtek 880 chip on motherboard).. But there is a solution.. So I hope it will work to night :)

Is it the two files in the extensions directory that cause the keyboard problems?

I have a PS2 and USB keyboard and have tried so many times to reboot, unplugging one and the other but it makes no difference. My mouse works though..... :-(

Can you tell me where the extensions directory is please?

Thanks.....

I have a PS2 Keyboard and USB mouse. Mouse works fine every time but keyboard only works up to the point the apple logo appears. Then i get to the registration page and of course get no further because the keyboard doesn't work. :( Got sound though and that's a first for me. If I could just solve the keyboard problem I'd be a happy chap :pope:

i had your problem - cured it by pluggin in a PS2 Keyboard AND a PS2 Mouse, then they both worked.

when i used a USB mouse and PS2 Keyboard, the mouse worked but the keyboard didn't.

Thanks. That's working now :) Actually I had this problem when I first installed XP. Just would not work with a USB mouse and PS2 keyboard but using a PS2 mouse and keyboard was fine. Then it seemed to sort itself out and has been fine until I installed OS X.

Anyway, thanks for your help, nice to be typing this from Safari :)

Ok, i've tried almost EVERYthing related to getting my mouse and keyboard working. Nothing at all seemed to work and i've finally given up and removed OSx86 from my computer.

The strangest thing is that very rarely, my keyboard would work (mostly no problems with the mouse) but figuring out why it worked when it did was so utterly frustrating that I couldn't take no more BIOS settings changes/PS2 keyboard/USB configuration options.

The guys that cracked this are surely clever, but you'd think they'd be clever enough to make something so blindingly simple as a USB keyboard interface work properly.

The advice on here hasn't been much help either....... Thanks to all those who at least tried.

Peace!

P.S. OSX is stunning, and when I dual-booted it with XP, i must say, I dreaded booting into XP after a while....... OSX is a joy to use and can be described as truly "modern" looking...... Even with WindowsBlinds, XP looks {censored}.

Sorry to hear you couldn't get it working Sheronius. I know how frustrating that is. I got OSX working fine but then it freezes on occasions when I go to do something as simple as open a file or check the properties of a file.

Still...I suppose we are pushing the boundaries of what it will do on non spec hardware.

Anyway...this might brighten your day a little. Head over to my site and check this post out http://www.pcmaczone.co.uk/modules.php?nam...iewtopic&t=1641

I'm using Crystal XP Vista at the moment and I have to say it kind of negates the need to run OSX anyway.

The dock that's included is better than the one in OSX and everything just looks and feels better :) It's better than WindowsBlind etc. Give it a try!

Thanks very much for the support pcmaczone..... I'm checking out CrystalXP right now.....

I was very annoyed by the keyboard issue as like i said, i feel that those who cracked OSX86 to work on generic PC's overlooked something i'm guessing is relatively simple (keyboard and mouse support) in relation to bypassing security measures!

The version of OSX was not the one that is currently shipping on Intel Macs anyway, so until a download comes along that makes available the final version of OSX86, cracked and keyboard/soundcard/network ready, i dont think i'll bother with it........ OSX kicks ass though..... seriously kicks ass..... and from what i've seen of the Vista Betas, they don't even come close to OSX right now, and thats before OS 10.5!

Apple seem to have found the holy grail of what a computer should look like and how an operating system should look and function. Too bad they're not nearly as popular as PC's......yet....... ;-)

Peace!

  • 2 weeks later...

My KVM issues is a bit more off the wall.. I have a ZONET KVM (lets me share sound, mic, keyboard mouse and video.)

The KVM works, but when I have a mouse plugged in through the KVM the movement speed is accelerated 10x. My only solution is to a) plug a separate mouse in directly, or :D reduce the pointer speed to absolute minimum... though... it's still too fast.

Any suggestions?

I had been using the Maklar DMG patched and it worked fine with my Wireless Keyboard/Mouse via USB.

I obtain the 8f1111 and patched with Jas 4.2b. The install worked fine with the wireless keyboard/mouse on USB. But after the install, the first boot it will not pickup either so cannot continue with setup :withstupid:
