nuemerik
I have downloaded Mac OSX x86 10.4.3 build 8f1111 and patched it as well with the JaS ppf. I have read that the box means the dvd is protected. How should I go about installing it now? Will I have to use vmware? If possible I would like to have osx installed natively. If you need any info about my system please let me know. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6598-white-box-w-grey-slashed-circle/ Share on other sites

FastMac
I have the exact same problem. But I actually used a different file and a different patch. But it still pops up with the little box with a circle with a slash through it. I dunno what to do..PLEASE HELP! For both of you, what app did you use to burn the patched iso? I ask because the only app I know that can do it properly is Ultra ISO. EileenDover
Ive got a similar problem, maybe someone can help me. I tried installing this on a Dell GX620. I will have to check the build (know its 10.4.3, and a 4+gb download, but not the flavor off-hand). It had a boot CD with partition magic and few apps on it and a DVD install. Per its instructions I booted to the CD and blew away the partitions and then create and formatted a FAT32 partition. I then boot from DVD and the install screen comes up. I go to disk utilities and it only finds the CD/DVD drive. I tried several attempts with partition magic using partitioned but not formatted, no partitions, etc. All combinations to no avail. So I went intot he BIOS and changed the SATA settings from normal to combined (to help with OS that dont recognize SATA). Now when I create/format the partition the DVD will no longer boot to the install/disk utility screen, instead I get the aforementioned apple symbol with the grey slashed circle. Anyone know what I did wrong or different to get the new error? It obviously is tied to the SATA drives.... sonicthehedgehog
FastMac- I used Ultra ISO to burn the patched version. I'm running an IDE HDD, so I dunno if it's directly connected to SATA drives. BLoudermilk
I am having the same problem, but I burned with Cheetah DVD Burner. I guess I'll try burning ti with ultraISO Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6598-white-box-w-grey-slashed-circle/#findComment-41558 Share on other sites
FastMac
Further to my comment, I never had any problem with my install DVD's, I made the Marklar-Tiger one and the f1111 one, made sure the md5 checksum sizes were correct, patched using PPF, burned by UltraIso using Nero's burn engine on DVD+r disks. I have both versions of OSx86 running fine except for video which is VGA out of 128Mb Nvidia Geforce 4. I did have to disable Hyperthreading to make the install work. sonicthehedgehog
FastMac, I did the exact same thing. I used the Marklar-Tiger one, ussed PPF to patch it, burned it to a DVD+R with UltraISO. I'm running on an AMD Turion 64 with SSEE2 and SSEE3 instructions. Very odd... maybe I should try the f1111 one. nuemerik
I burned with NERO. I'll try with ultra ISO and see how it turns out. I'll update once I get home from work. sonicthehedgehog
Actually I burned with NERO as well, not UltraISO. But maybe burning with UltraISO will work. It'll be interesting to see. Let us know, hopefully it does. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6598-white-box-w-grey-slashed-circle/#findComment-42175 Share on other sites
banan2006
In my case finally it works like a charm... I used TransMAC do extract iso file. Then I applied JASS patch and burned it with UltraISO (nero 7 engine). At the beggining it was a disaster. I've got spinning circle all the time but then... I've changed my old DVD drive to the new one (LiteON DVD-ROM) which was lying around and voila. install went fine and now I'm enjoying MacOS for x86. sulfo
if u still have this problem try pressing f8 for boot options and type -v u can now see where it stalls and investigate further... BLoudermilk
I'll try re-burning the DVD with UltraISO (I used Cheetah DVD burner last time)... I might also try to use a different DVD player and see if that works, good idea. sonicthehedgehog
banan- Which file did you use? Did you re-package the ISO once you patched it with the JASS using UltraISO? TomSteR - I've tried that and it says it's waiting for the drive, or something to that effect, I forget exactly what it told me. It's going to be hard to run another DVD drive seeing that I'm running off a laptop. banan2006
banan- Which file did you use? Did you re-package the ISO once you patched it with the JASS using UltraISO? I've used macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.dmg file and after applying patch I've simply opened it in UltraISO and burned it from there. sulfo
was it possibly: Still waitung for root device? there a some threads around and something in the wiki which should solve that. when i had this error the problem was that it was connected to secondary ide channel which osx doesnt seem to recognize... BLoudermilk
That's the error I am getting. I downloaded "macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.dmg", converted it to .iso with ultraISO, patched it with JaS' "1111a.Generic.Patch.v4.2b" patch, then burned it with ultraISO. But to no avail, I still get the "Still waiting for root device" error. I made sure all my md5 checksums were correct (according to this tut), made sure my hard drive jumper setting wasn't on "Cable Select", checked for a "Legacy USB support" option, but motherboard didn't have one. So basically, I am lost... I have decided to wait until 10.4.4 is cracked, as I have a feeling it will run loads better and will work with more hardware, although I could be completely wrong. SchmilK
That error was resolved for me by putting the drive i was setting up as the primary master via ata and sata1 on when i setup my sata drive after figuring out what was the problem..i wsa originally using sata2.
