I just installed Mac OS X 10.4.10 (XxX version) onto my Toshiba A65-S126 laptop. I have gotten most things working, including the Wireless card and ethernet.

One thing that I cannot get to work is CI/QE for my video card. I have a driver for the video card, and it loads correctly, but it does not support Core Image or Quartz Extreme. Does this card not have the function to support these, or am I just using the wrong driver?

Also, my computer seems to lag. I am using a P4 (SSE2) and copying to hard drive especially is slow. Is this because of a driver error with the ATA controller, or is it just related to the fact that it is an SSE2 computer?

Thank you for all the help!

Even if the driver did work, you wouldn't get CI. CI needs a card with programmable shaders (i.e. R9500/FX5200 or better).

You might get QE/res support by using the instructions found in the Radeon 7500 QE thread here, although it doesn't seem to have worked for many, so on a laptop with an IGP, you've got even less chance.

Ok, that's good to know. Thanks for all the info.

I also have a desktop, and I currently has an integrated 915G (GMA900). I can't seem to get the driver to work correctly to support CI or QE.

What would be a good PCIe video card to get that would be supported "out-of-the-box" by Mac OS X?

Thanks for the help!

Good graphics cards for OS X are the GeForce 6/7 series and ATI X1xx (but not X1950Pro/X1500.) Both are well supported using OS X's native drivers with a kext like Natit. Work is starting on the Radon HD 2xxx and GeForce 8xxx cards, and both work, but there are too many limitations at the moment, so unless you need DX10 support, I'd recommend steering clear.

If you don't care too much about performance (anything's better than GMA900 anyway!), I'd recommend a GeForce 7300, as they can be got very cheap now.
