Hello everyone, my name is ryan, and I have been surfing your forum all day, and this OSx86 project really has my intrest peaked, so much to the point that I am about to go out an buy an external hard drive and use it to boot OSx86...and I just had some questions about install and different things. Do I have to have a USB keyboard/mouse? Will vista cause alot of problems? and can you install OSx86 on just any external hard drive? Any responce will be ver much appriciated.

Thanks a million,

Ryan

i recommend using a ps/2 mouse and keyboard

yes, you can install on pretty much any usb hard drive

for a installing guide, use pcwiz's guide

for multi-booting, go to http://wiki.osx86project.org and go to the installation guides and go to the dual-boot section

My guide for installing on USB:

USB drive installs are fast as long as you have a USB 2.0 port. Well actually for mouse and keyboard I recommend USB if you can get some. My PS/2 mouse didn't work with the installer when I was installing and I had to swap it out for a USB mouse. It will do nothing to Vista and Vista has no effect on how the install will function. Thats what I like about external USB installs...no dual boot problems, bootloader problems, etc.

As long as your BIOS supports booting from USB you're good to go.

Yes, actually pcwiz I used your article all the way through...I have a copy of "Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2]" And I actually have it installed on the maxtor external drive I bought today (you guys have a way of making a guy like me spend money just to see if I can make stuff work!)

But until I resolve my BIOS problems there is no way to get it to boot....which, pardon me, but it down right blows!
