diogan
I'm going to building a hackintosh for myself in January and I've been thinking about using the Bad Axe 2 motherboard, since that seems to be generally regarded as the best mobo to get for building an OSx86 system. I also read that you need to update the BIOS before you install Mac OSX on a new hard drive. This is a newbie question, I know, but how do I update the BIOS before having install the operating system? Thanks in advance.

EtherealRemnant
Umm... I didn't update my BIOS and I bought my BX2 back in March... you should be fine without a BIOS update, I've never had any issues.
diogan
Ahh, ok. So I can install Windows XP on it and run the updater that way. Thanks! Download this and start it in windows.Really? Even better! Do you know if the sound input works? I'm a musician so it's vitally important for the sound input to be working.Umm... EtherealRemnant
Sound input does NOT work for me. It works for some and not others. Nobody knows why. But I can tell you that if you want stable sound, don't go with any onboard solution on any board. Grab an external audio device... look around here for info on that. Anyway no, I have not updated my BIOS. I got the most stable overclock on my current BIOS and after trying later BIOSes, I just got annoyed with fighting with the overclocks and went right back to the original. I can't remember the exact revision right now.
SMF
Several people have simply purchased a USB sound card. While it may not be as elegant as using a PCI card or onboard sound it will work on a hackintosh with out fuss. SMF
EtherealRemnant
That was my point.
solaar
I'm a musician so it's vitally important for the sound input to be working. As a musician do yourself a huge favour and never use onboard sound input for tracking. Onboard chips sport the nastiest A/D converters on the market. Unless of course you convert outboard and input a digital signal via SPDIF (if possible at all with OSX86, I've never tested it. I'm not even sure if there's SPDIF input on mobos in a first place...) EtherealRemnant
SPDIF, while I've never tested it, is detected fine on my Bad Axe 2 by Taruga's AppleHDA patcher. That doesn't really mean {censored} though, since so is Mic In, which doesn't work.

I just go straight from the line-out on the back of my marshall amp head to the line-in on the computer (with an adapter for the 1/4 inch jack of course). About as simple and rudimentary as you can get. If I use a USB soundcard that should circumvent that issue though.
