telarmago
I have a Lite-On DVD Burner, which does not work under my Tubgirl 10.4.10 install. I got it from Newegg two years ago, as a "LITE-ON 16X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model SHW160P6S05 - OEM". In "sudo dmesg" there is no reference to a CD/DVD drive, and in System Profiler, under "Disc Burning", it displays "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly." I also have a question about System Profiler, where it displays my Opteron 170 as having a bus speed of 200 MHz. Now, my Opteron is overclocked at 250x10, so shouldn't the bus speed read 250 MHz? It reads as 200 MHz, whether I run it at stock, or overclocked. Thanks for reading, and help would be appreciated. EDIT - To clarify, my CD drive does open/close when I operate it via it's physical interface. I can put a CD in, but OSX doesn't not recognize anything. themacmeister
I have the same problem - if you have a USB or FireWire drive, you will have success! Trying to solve this myself as well Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65530-cd-drive-not-working-cpu-question/#findComment-464455 Share on other sites

madnoh
I had that same problem, too. It has to do with IDE. Hook up the DVD drive via USB or Firewire and it works fine. I didn't like that solution so I bought a SATA DVD burner and all is well.
