TennisGeek,

Can you post your new DSDT file?

Thanks!

-Shaughn

Here you go.

For the owner without Quadro NVS 290 -- You may want disassemble, remove GFX1, and recompile the DSDT.aml file.

This one, though it's harmless if you don't have the card (I often use the machine without the card), contains the NVS 290 definition.

If you have a different video card, you definitely want to remove the GFX1 definition, or modify to your card.

Compared to previous one, the sleep is working great. Also, the machine comes back with USB event (such as mouse/keyboard.) USB entries mimic my MacBook's DSDT, and works quite well.

What about Snow leopard installs ?

I have Two of these boards, intended to be used as Hacks

I've used "My Hack" to install on a new HD, but time machine causes panic, and the video is not quite right ..

Have you tried SL ?

Good news everyone!

I just installed Snow Leopard 10.6.0 on ABIT IL-90MV, with vanilla kernel.

As I expected, the sound stopped working.

So far, I've noticed:

1. /Extra/DSDT.aml needs RTC pached.

There is a same problem as Gigabyte's ACPI for bad RTC definition.

You need to update the DSDT.aml for Snow Leopard.

2. IOATAFamily.kext needs to be replaced.

You can find a thread

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=186609&hl=

3. Kernel needs to be 32bit, or else GMA950 does not work.

You need to use -x32 for kernel flags. It's not a big deal for IL-90MV since the machine can have up to 2GB memory anyway.

I've used Generic Retail installation guide, with some kexts I used for my Gigabyte, and IOATAFamily.kext.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=182227

Since I've gone through the same path with Gigabyte motherboard, it was relatively easy so far.

When I'm through, I will write up a guide for SL installation, and the dsdt/extension pack.

I just installed Snow Leopard 10.6.0 on ABIT IL-90MV, with vanilla kernel.

As I expected, the sound stopped working.

I got KP using AppleHDA patcher 1.2, which was a mild surprise. :(

I hope I can get back to running state. Shoot.

Also, the wake up from sleep stopped working. :P

It is going to take a while 'til it's all sorted out.

I hope when I had to go through the BIOS setting, I did not do it right.

I have full res from 640 x 480 to 1280X1024

60hz or 75hz

I can even ROTATE to my syncmater 17” 90,180 or 270degree (weird)

When I add a widget…it ripples! And time machine is in 3D.

PLUS- NO artifacts in Word, or anywhere else

Front Row seems to work yet I didn’t see the tv show, I only heard it.

SADLY…I got no picture from the HDMI port after I get to the Mac desktop…

**UPDATE**

Installed Intel pro and network is fast again as it should be!!!

Ran ifcongig –a in terminal and set my MTU to 1280 and it seamed to help.

I’m looking into using another network card, maye intell brand.

I didn’t check all the ports for sound ( mic – in )

But all the out ports seem to work.

I manually updated to the 10.6.3 the reinstalled

Legacy_Kernel.

I’m not sure I really need that, but it works with it…so I’ll check on it later.

I even copied from my ide hard drive(initial install ) to a sata drive (500gb)

Three partitions, installed chameleon to boot it THEN ran the latest

Chameleon 2.0 rc4 and restarted.

I\m in the process of running Software update_ till there is nothing left to

Update.

Basically, EVERYTHING else is working except HDM and Nic( built in stuff ) And it wont wake from sleep...Any help on that ? Though i installed a kext (?) to make the monitor sleep and wake up, just NOT the computer....and my keyboard is set to work in the bios as the ps2 type but I still have to plug the mouse into a usb port to work

I run all this on a t5600 64bit mode( not using arch-i386)

What did I miss ? :(

This is up to your particular network, and not general.

I’m looking into using another network card, maye intell brand.

NewEgg has a Marvel Yukon chipset PCI-e X1 card under Rosewill name, RC-401-EX

This is plug&play, and I used it for a Hack.

But, I've never had any problem with the onboard Intel gigabit, which is actually better chipset than Marvel Yukon.

I am still struggling with the sound. It's probably because I'm trying to use the stock AppleHDA.

What do you use?

The ethernet not working has a good chance fixed by DSDT.

You should take a look at the output of "ioreg -lw0" and see how your Hack detects the NIC.

(Or IORegistryExpolorer)

Bad news:

HDMI on GMA950, noone has been able to figure it out. There is a topic dedicated to this.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t=#entry1017236

From time to time, I try tweaking the DSDT, but no cigar.

nVidia Quadro NVS 290 is known to work well with my DSDT. It does dual DVI.

Last but not least, sleep has been a problem, and with 10.5.8, it seemed to work good.

However, with 10.6.2, (and maybe 10.6.3) many Hacks not just IL90-MV are seeing the similar problem as near as I can tell.

My other Hack (GA-EP35-DS4) works perfect with sleep, so it's been frustrating.

ifconfig -a is just a tweak

I think my on board Nic is fried...it doesn't register at all, and I don't know, how to disable it physically.

sleep is not a big deal to me no matter what, but that HDMI port would be SWEET with my 40" Sony!

Onboard video is great otherwise.

I wonder if a dual boot with windows 7 would make this a more versatile system if the HDMI port worked

with the sound, if even just to watch movies......Nah!

Thanks.

I do not like to touch /S/L/E, so I'll use a USB sound because, I want to take System Update.

My other hack uses LegacyHDA.kext in /E/E, but works with stock AppleHDA.

Why don't you run a live Ubuntu CD? If the NIC is alive, you should be able to see it works.

Disabling is in BIOS's "Integrated Peripherals".

Monoprice has a USB gigabit ethernet that works with Mac.

.....

I use kext utility to install all my kext, works GREAT and easy to use.

System update ? I run software update under the Apple, and It updates fine and my Built-in sound still works

As of today my system is " UP to Date" 100%.

(Why don't you run a live Ubuntu CD? If the NIC is alive, you should be able to see it works.

DUH! I said " physically-disable " ie with a jumper.

It doesn't show up anywhere in my bios, ...it used to.

Thats why I think its fried. I might re-run the bios flash update to see if it brings it back.

i think Running a pci intel Nic is better than using usb port for networking.

Why would you want to run a usb sound.(or Nic) if you could use the internal options buy installing a pci card or putting a working Kext into your extensions folder?

I heard someone got the HDMI to output to only one res (1024 x ?) but they were upset cause it was the wrong res for their needs. My 32" Samsung will take any res I can give it....almost.

I'm going to go look for that post again.

EVOToolsX is pretty good utility to "see" into your Mac.

I think the sleep issue may be resolved using info from that utility

**UPDATE**

front row video works fine with faster working pci-intel pro Nic....as I thought it would.

I'll work on Sleep issue, unless someone out there has already got it fixed...?

Sorry to hear that your MoBo is having a problem with it.

For me, it's best to not mod /S/L/E from Apple stock and minimize addition to /E/E.

Since USB audio is true plug&play, it is less trouble.

Also, patching DSDT to make stock kexts work, it's a big win since your Hack really thinks that it's Apple devices.

I don't mind adding cards, etc. I do mind adding modded kexts to /S/L/E.

That's why working nVidia NVS 290 with DSDT patching is great. Its driver is nVidia stock kext, and very little chance that the system updates break it. OTOH, if you mod a kext in /S/L/E, there is always a chance that the next system update breaks it.

For IL-90MV, HDMI works only with VESA frame buffer, AFAIK.

On my MacBook2,1 which has GMA950, if I run Ubuntu, it does not know how to hot-plug DVI, and cannot detect it.

OTOH, with MacOS, it does hot-plug DVI, but the ioreg does not seem to reflect that. I don't know what's going on.

My next try is to fnd what MacMini does with DVI.

For sleep, check out the 10.6.2 sleep problem thread first. I don't know URL, but it shouldn't be hard to search.

Good luck.

I've been scratching my head with IL-90MV as the power button does not work like that, even though the IO service place clearly shows that it recognizes the power button. I suspect that the BIOS is interfering.

My machine goes into sleep by the power button! But never awake again.

Well, I'm still tinkering the DSDT, and made the power button to function.

Maybe removing NullPM and SleepEnabler by having proper vanilla speedstep is the only way to solve this.

I'm very tired of this board.

what did you have to do to get the retail version on this board... bios settings, hardware...

basically when i try to use boot 123 it allows me to start booting the install dvd, but then resets the computer...

i am running a core2duo, 2gb ram, ide HD, and pioneer sata dvdrw...

thanks,

Chris

I have SL fully updated thru Software update w/vanilla using the latest "my hack" then kext helper to get sound working amd full 950 res video, on board sound time machine and sleep( for screen only).

No HDMI, my on board Nic is already fried so I use intel pro, and it doesn't wake up if you put it to sleep.

Here is some of what I use... After update you might reinstall some kext.

**UPDATE** This is the frame buffer used with the upgraded other kext....(fat fingers...)

this was to be where the ...vadriverbundle.kext got loaded..

  • 3 weeks later...

I've hacked up the DSDT quite a bit to make it work.

For me, one major problem that I cannot overcome is the lack of HPET device.

I am running Ubuntu right now on IL-90MV, and this is the result of "lspnp" command.

$ lspnp
00:00 PNP0a08 (unknown)
00:01 PNP0c02 Motherboard resources
00:02 PNP0200 AT DMA controller
00:03 PNP0b00 AT real-time clock
00:04 PNP0800 AT speaker
00:05 PNP0c04 Math coprocessor
00:06 PNP0c02 Motherboard resources
00:07 INT0800 (unknown)
00:08 PNP0c02 Motherboard resources
00:09 PNP0c01 System board

Without HPET deivce (PNP0103), the vanilla speed step cannot be used.

I am totally put off by this.

I've jump shipped from using IL-90MV as a Hack. Though there are many good things about it, like, it has HDMI, nice Intel GbE, firewire, etc, but the ACPI table on IL-90MV is pretty bad, and not having HPET device makes this board very unattractive for a Hack.

I have a T7200, a nice CPU and all, but it's just not worth putting effort any more.

I bought 2.6GHz Pentium dual core, Zotac GF9300 for real cheap and it does vanilla speedstep with vanilla kernel with modded DSDT.

The power consumption is neck and neck, and 2.6GHz CPU beats T7200 easily. (I have a Kill-a-watt.)

So, my conclusion is, Abit IL-90MV is not a ultimate Hack board. It does work but it's a lousy choice for the base of Hack.

I think I'm going to use IL-90MV for my Linux server for now, and even that is problematic with the bugs in ACPI tables.
