vandall
Hello all... I am at the final stage of my OSX86 build and desperately in need of some help. I am running OSX JaS 10.4.8 AMD + INTEL SSE3...on an Asus P5B-E (Intel CPU) OSX was installed and got up and running by booting the install dvd from a DVD drive in a USB enclosure... it was installed onto a PATA IDE HD. Then the PATA HD was put into the USB enclosure and OSX would run. I have now tried to clone the USB > Int SATA. It will not boot. I have put the SATA in the USB enclosure to see if it will boot... it wont. I have tried a fresh install via every conceivable method. (DVD in USB trying to instlal to Int SATA, SATA in USB , DVD drive int IDE. SATA in USB DVD drive on IDE to SATA convertor etc.. everything) it doesn't work... I have been planning out my studio upgrade (I am a record producer) for some time... I have got Logic 8 running on OSX off the USB .. everything great... bought the new HD's to complete the 'dual boot' setup , and alot on new RAM to complete the setup... I am now stumped at the last moment. There must be an issue with the clone, as it performs exactly the same when put > USB... Which is of course the exact same setup as the current working (but obivosuly just for temporary testing) boot drive the clone is sourced from is. I am only able to clone at the file level using CCC obviosuly becuase the system drive is curently in use running the thing in the first palce... this should not affect its bootability says the documentation however. Any ideas anyone, please? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65196-so-close-yet-so-far/ Share on other sites
~pcwiz
If your motherboard is using the nForce4 chipset, that would explain why you can't install to SATA. hecker
I recommend you download and try out "SuperDuper!". It will clone your partition even if it is running and it will make your clone bootable (check the options). hecker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65196-so-close-yet-so-far/#findComment-461691 Share on other sites
vandall
If your motherboard is using the nForce4 chipset, that would explain why you can't install to SATA.As stated, I'm using running on an Asus P5B-E , a popular Osx86 board that many are successful with, no nforce chipset, ICH8! Sata devices appear fine within OSX when running off the USBI recommend you download and try out "SuperDuper!". It will clone your partition even if it is running and it will make your clone bootable (check the options).heckerCCC should be doiung this, its by far the most reputable and mentioned utility for this... I shall however try this superdruper however futile it may be as I am rather desperate. vandall
OK... worked this one out.. very bloody simple.. SATA controller must be set to ACHI! Wish someone had told me that when I started months ago.. would have been alot simpler. Wasn't able to get the clone to boot this way... but did a fresh install (which is better and tighter than the first neways) to the SATA and here I am booting off it all gravy. Thank you OSX86 project!! Hopefully this will be my last (begging for help) post .. we shall see when my MOTU 828 MK2 Firewire turns up... firewire works fine it appears so no problems expected. vandall
just to update on this....for any1 present or future who is reading these psots looking for help with their own build.... Windows would not boot with ACHI enablled... it can be sorted without a clean install apparently with ALOT of mesing about.. I however will probably settle for changing the BIOS setting depending on wether I want to boot OSX or XP... it's a small price to pay to have a 'free mac' Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/65196-so-close-yet-so-far/#findComment-462147 Share on other sites
