alvin777
Hi. What freeware compression/uncompression program is the best for OS X? I'm uncompressing the newer Kalway Leopar in rar (I think it then uncompresses to zip). I'm downloading in versiontracker. Other recommendations welcome. Thanks in advance. bibendum
I just use the built in Zip (right click on an object, select "Make Archive..." from the context popup. Double click to de-compress...) The Baron
I use The Unarchiver http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html Handles most formats, and means you don't need Stuffit on your machine... ~pcwiz
Mac OS X's built in decompression works for other formats but for formats that can't be opened, I use the (classic) Stuffit Expander Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64521-recommend-freeware-uncompressioncompression-program/#findComment-457332 Share on other sites
monoem
Definetely Zipeg - great GUI, many formats (ZIP, RAR, ARJ, LHA & 7z), plain & simple. Plus the sheep Zipeg for Mac Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64521-recommend-freeware-uncompressioncompression-program/#findComment-457341 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
I HATE Zipeg. If you try to open a zip containing kexts, it recognizes the kexts as folders. But then again, thats just my opinion.... BJMoose
I'm going to say 'stuffit' also. Very dependable and worth spending a few bucks for it. ~pcwiz
Yes StuffIt is my favourite. Its well tested, its been around since a very long time in Mac history and it does the job with a simply interface. I only wish they would lower down the download size (12MB). Doesn't seem like a lot but with a 30KBps download speed, when you want to get things done in a hurry, then its annoying having to wait for the download but other than that, StuffIt RULES.
