Hello there,

I recently upgraded my motherboard and processor.

Abit IB9 Motherboard / ICH8

I already had these following drives installed on my computer before upgrading and OSX was working great.

1 IDE optical drive

2 IDE HDD

1 SATA2IDE Converter

I was reading few threads here and they recommend to use optical drive using SATA. I used the converter to hook my optical drive.

My existing HD contains WinXP and OSX. Now I want to reinstall my OSX. I put on my JaS 10.4.8 DVD and restarted my computer and DVD starts the installation and I get an error message "still waiting for root device". I'm sure maybe some place this matter is addressed but I couldn't find. I hooked my SATA converter to both HD and optical drive and on both ways I get stuck at the error.

Is there a fix for this problem? Experts help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much :(

I have the same motherboard and mac install disc (JaS 10.4.8 AMD/Intel), at first I thought it was a problem with the usb since the error shown up in "-v" is about USBIOClient... , but after a bit research in this forum I think the problem is the ICH8 SATA controller (mac os didn't detect it), the IDE controller didn't help either since altough it's not using Jmicron like most 965, the ITE IT8212 chipset isn't any better.

I'm currently still trying to find the solution by searching in this forum, hopefully it will turn out good :P

Just curious if anyone ever found a solution to this problem? I also have an IB9, I believe what is going on is the SATA Chipset ICH8 is not recognized. I did find a "Patch" in one of the forums, but being a noob to OSx86, I have no idea how to integrate it into my install disc. The instructions are for already installed systems, but I dont know how itd be possible to install a system if the HD is not recognized to begin with. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

How to install Mac Leopard on ABIT IB9 >> P965 >>ICH8 or others

Hardware used in this article:

Main board : ABIT IB9.

Bios setting : first boot device is IDE DVD, second is S‐ATA CD‐Rom and third is HDD.

CPU : Intel 3.06 , 1M cache L2 , Bus 533. Instructions SSE2, SSE3, Em64

Ram : 2 x 1gig Patriot PC2‐6400. DDRII 800

VGA :Geforce 8500 GT 512 MB.

HDD : Maxtor 80 S‐ATA connected to first S‐ATA port on MB.

DVD‐RW 1 : Pioneer A15FXD with IDE Interface

DVD‐RW 2 : LG GSA‐H42N with IDE interface but connected via IDE to S‐ATA

converter that there is in main board box and connect to S‐ATA port

on main board.

And the Kalyway installation DVD that can downloaded from torrent sites like www.isohunt.com

What is the problem for Installation on ABIT IB9 and what is the solution?

So, the problem for installation on this MB is the famous error “Still waiting for root device” because the installer cannot find DVD because of using J‐Micron chipset for IDE device and when you use a S‐ATA DVD‐Rom it remain in first step and would not load kernel although with IDE DVD‐Rom you can load the kernel and then you see the famous error that can’t be passed.

So I combine these two interface to pass the error, first I boot with IDE interfaced DVD‐Rom and after it loads the kernel and was seeking for installation DVD I reject the DVD from IDE and put to S‐ATA and the process will continue with S‐ATA DVD‐Rom and never see the famous error. Here after the process is very simple and there is a lot of installation guide to them.

After a while installer will ask you to select the main installing language and I choose US and continue. Next it introduce Leopard new features and there is a key to continue but before you keep go on to installing the Mac there is some utility that you can do and most important is about disk utility that

you can erase a partition or erase free space and …

I choose the first partition and erase it with Mac Journaled Extended after that you should open the utility and open terminal and type this diskutil list and press enter aware of space between “diskutil” and “list” this command

give you information about HDD and installation drive so search for something like this “disk0s1” this will may important to boot

To continue press continue and agree with license that mine is Kalyway and really has

very important information, so go on.

Now it begin to check DVD and you can skip this step, I skipped because I was sure of

my DVD. After 20 minute it shows you the “install successful” message with nice green tick, it restart computer after some seconds (25 sec or something near) and if you use Kalyway installation DVD it boots up and there is no need to enter any command, but if you use another or did not boot press F8 and enter the path of installation directory like this.

Press any key to boot from CD or press F8 to enter boot options

Press F8 then enter rd=disk0s1

I assumed that you install Mac on HDD 0 and first partition so if you use another one use something else like rd=disk0s2 or rd=disk1s1 or anything else So it will boot up and you should enter registration information like name and family and ….

So enjoy now you have a Mac Pro and LAN and sound is working fine if not download

this free software and also download hardware Kext that is prepare with good guys Hackers.

Software : http://######.com/osx86tools/

If link don’t work try this http://www.alidarabi.net/mac/

With this software you can make your HDD bootable to boot without DVD and also download and install your driver and many others but before anything create a backup of your kernel and Kext using this application and then do everything you like. To make the HDD bootable use button Install EFI‐boot kext or chameleon I used EFI enter your password and don’t attention to error “DD fail to write” or

something like. You can also remove boot loader from your HDD using this app.

Driver for VGA Lan And sound codec : http://www.mediafire.com/?3xhtbdfhozo

Choose hardware and then view Kext and then add Kext to boot.plist, all of these

steps are visually and have no fear about it you don’t need to enter any code.
