mirage3d
hi there, i upgraded my 10.4.8 sse2 system to 10.4.9 using uphuck's 1.3 dvd. i noticed that my system ground to almost a halt for the first couple of hours. figured maybe it's spotlight going through my drives or possibly a few other housekeeping tasks that the system is performing. the system cpu usage was in the range of 40%-85%. and even safari with a static page and now activity was clocking 5%-8%. i think it has to do with sse2 since the kernel task is taking so much resources of my cpu. i tried 4 versions of kernels - netkas/semthex and ToH's - and both suffer from the same thing. is there a framework that i should delete or disable, or is there a faster 10.4.9 kernel i can use on sse2? my cpu is a p4 2.52GHz with 512mb ram - it's old i know, but it's a secondary machine. thanks, mirage3d Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64119-high-1049-cpu-usage-on-sse2/ Share on other sites

~pcwiz
Use an IRC client to access irc.osx86.hu, where you can find download links to the latest SSE2, SSE3, and Universal kernels. mirage3d
got mine to go back to its sweet old speed. here's what i did - after reading some posts on hackint0sh and the irc - for the benefit of other pour sse2 souls... - removed AppleThermal.kext - removed IOATAFamily.kext - i suspect this might be the main reason since cpu goes up when there's disk activity - removed AppleIntelCPUManagement.kext - to get the latest universal kernel to work - link from netkas's site or irc - replaced AppleACPIPlatform.kext with the 10.4.8 version now the system is much more responsive. thx pcwiz for your suggestion... mirage3d Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64119-high-1049-cpu-usage-on-sse2/#findComment-453900 Share on other sites

~pcwiz
OK: Connect to server: irc.osx86.hu Connect to chatroom: #kernel Type in: !kernel And I think the step you missed: When you type !kernel, on the left panel there will be a new user named KernelBot. Click on KernelBot and a text screen will pop up with links to the kernels.
