First of all I would like to hello to everyone here

Second I have a question-I am considering a new comp with these specs and I'm wondering if there would be any problems install mac x86 on this hardware

Here are the specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+

512 ddr Ram

Integrated ATI Radeon HyperMemory 256MB Graphics

Integrated 5.1 Capable Sound

Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

160 Gb HD

16x Max DVD-ROM drive

And I'm also wondering if the 9 in 1 card reader will work on mac os x?

Thank you for your patience

Since you said ddr not ddr2 you will need sse2 patch, remember that for future reference. Your 5.1 may or may not work off the bat, sound may not work at all.

If it's Realtek ALC860/880 some people have had luck with those.

SATA or not? If you have nForce4 and SATA thats not good right now.

If you don't have either Intel ICH or nForce then your DVD will not be detected as GenericPCATA driver does not see secondary channel

Yeah, from what I hear Athlon 64 does not support ddr2, and I'm pretty sure the DVD drive has Nforce, but I dont know if the hd has SATA, you just cant get detailed specs from certain people these days. I'll look into it some more, thanks.

One more question- will sound blaster LIVE! hd audio work?

DDR or DDR2 has nothing to do with SSE. All current athlons only support DDR1 as they don't need much more at this point. DDR2 was developed to overcome the laitencies with the Penitum4 architecture. AMD cpus aren't really effected by this, but will eventually adopt support (in CPU) for DDR2 as it becomes more popular.

As for the cpu, it depends what generation Athlon 64 you have. What core is it, ie a Venice, etc. Run CPUID (www.cpuid.com) to find out if the CPU supports SSE3.

Looks like you are trying to get this working with a ATI Based motherboard. ATI has very poor support for chipsets at this point and you will probably get the boot kernel panic. You sound will most likely be ATI's AC97 so you may get lucky and find out it works.. It would help a lot if you actually posted the model of motherboard so we can get more details...

No one that I know of on any of the Mac OS x86 forums has gotten SB Live! to work. I have one, and would love to use it, but alas, no go.

I have heard that the USB version of SB LIve works (check the Wiki to be certain). I ended up using some totally weird offbrand USB sound adapter and it was immediately recognized - strange eh? Pay $$$ for a SB card and nada, spend $12 on a little black USB plug with a headphone jack in it and BANG - iTune city. Go figure...
