Any help would be great guys, I could take the easy route and just reinstall the whole thing but I cannot afford to lose the information I have on the harddrive.. I was stupid enough to not back it up and now Im scared I might have to pay for it...

Anywho... I was on 10.4.9, everything working perfectly. I read on a post here that someone copied their old extensions to the desktop, downloaded the 10.4.10 intel update through the software updater, before restarting pasted the extensions in the new extensions folder, and rebooted. Worked for him.... NOT FOR ME

So now my computer keeps rebooting to right before the grey apple screen. Im thinking its something simple but I could be wrong... either way Im willing to do whatever it takes, its just that I CANNOT LOSE the information on the HD...

...Help??...

Thanks..

that would've worked, if before rebooting you put in a new kernel. That method works, you just need to backup and restore a couple of extensions and put in a new kernel - backing up your whole extensions folder kind of defeats the whole point. Then, fix up permissions and reboot.

If you have a windows partition you can install macdrive so you can w/r to your osX partition. Then, copy over a new kernel that you will obtain from IRC. Next, boot your install cd and use it's diskutility to repair permissions. Should work after that.

Or, easier, use a second drive to install another copy of osX, and fix it up from there.

Well I dont have a windows partition. I pretty much just have that only partition on the HD which contains the osx... To be honest with you, this is my first system so Im not TOOOOO intelligent with all the kernel stuff..I actually just found a backup of my info so I dont need to worry about the stuff on the HD.. Do you think it would just be smarter to just do a full install of the KavKal (spelling??) 10.4.10 install cd??

I don't know whether this will work for you but it's worth trying

put your osx installation dvd into the drive and boot your computer from it

follow through the installation screens until you come to the one that has the install button on it. Click on it. Select your existing OSX partition(without using disk utility and reformatting it)....it should copy OSX over the drive and it then renames your existing folders like system and applications etc. to system(os9) and applications(os9) so that you shouldnt lose anything major (no guarantee from me for that though - i did try this once and it did for me but i won't guarantee that it will for you). Once the installation program has completed and you restart your computer it should boot into OSX and you should be able to salvage your data (hopefully)

Hope this is some help to you and I know what its like to lose all the data off the drive - been there and done that myself from time to time

good luck with it

You can try hackintosh 10.4.10 update for hackintosh from TPB.

I've tried it,I update it from 10.4.8 to 10.4.10..

Everything is fine,,

but there is a bit problem..

I don't know if this will make bad effects with your PC(Coz there is no sound wit my PC after the updating)

U can try it anyway, but I promised that it is quite stable,,many people get the update from Apple, but most of them can't update it perfectly.

Uzy,

Did you try replacing the 10.4.10 kernel with the one from your 10.4.9? Yep, I tried installing 10.4.10 and the same thing happened with me. Went to the Apple screen and started rebooting. I really don't know if you can replace the kernel without being able to boot though...Maybe someone else can help you there :hysterical:

Good luck
