phil a meant
Hi all, I've been thinking about updating my current Hackintosh -which had been running great until I did the PascalW 10.4.10 update : ( I was thinking about getting the D975XBX2KR Badaxe2 and a CHEAP Core2Duo (Allendale 2ghz?). Has anyone had luck with S3 sleep and this board? What about with the MSI GeForce 7600GS (the dual DVI version). Should this be able to to S3 sleep? One of the reasons I'm thinking about updating is for energy efficiency, I'm currently using a Pentium D which refuses to wake from sleep (the PD is power hungry enough as is!) Thanks for any info you can provide! -Phil Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62967-d975xbx2kr-badaxe2-and-s3-sleep/ Share on other sites
TexAg
I have a BadAxe2 with Quad Q6600. Sadly, sleep does not work. I have tried many solutions offered here - Paulicat, Kiko, Prasys. The Mac is superfast and stable. But the sleep issue is such a pain that I am regretting building a hack. Should have got an iMac. I am running Jas 10.4.9 with 8.9.1 kernel (I believe Semthek's kernel). Findibulator
Sleep "kinda" works.. S2 works on mine - but S3 sleep requires me to reconnect any USB devices after it wakes. Everything else works fine, just not USB (when waking from sleep). Soooo close on my system - I'm still trying to figure out if there's a way to force the OS it reset USB devices via software somehow. nemster
could you paste your specs findibulator? thanks there is another thread (maybe on hackint0..) reporting working sleep on the ga-p35 ds4. i tried it on my p5b premium. i think it would work, since it wakes up but stuff crashes. probably the nvidia driver. cheers Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62967-d975xbx2kr-badaxe2-and-s3-sleep/#findComment-446047 Share on other sites
cos54r
Hi, I've got a BADAXE2 with a Q6600 and sleep works for me although I think this might be because I have an Apple Cinema Display. Without the Cinema sleep works but I have to reconnect the USB K/B and Mouse afterwards but connecting the K/B and Mouse directly to the Cinema USB Hub and connecting the Cinema to the Board everything works 100%. Just a thought but maybe connecting the Keyboard and mouse to an Apple 'certified' Hub (I'm thinking one the y sell at the Apple Store) such as the £15 Belkin Hub may solve the problem. I have a Belkin Hub and will give it a try. TexAg
cos54r I have a Apple Cinema Display too. Exactly like you describe, mouse & keyboard connected to the display ports work fine after wake. But my sleep mode is very inconsistent...it works randomly. It goes to sleep fine...but hangs on waking. Are you running Jas 10.4.9? Which kernel? Did you have to install any ACPI kext to get sleep to work? And finally which video card & drivers are you using? phil a meant
Thanks, guys. At least I know that S3 sleep won't work any better than it does for me now (I used to have S3 sleep on 10.4.8 and my i945ga board, but it was broken by 10.4.9). Unfortunately, it looks like my new graphics card (MSI NX7600GS-T2D256E 256Mb) won't even support display sleep : ( Nonetheless, I ordered the Badaxe2, the e6300, and the MSI NX7600GS-T2D256E. It should be a BIG improvement over my current build (Aopen i945ga-PLF, Pentium D 805 @ 3.33ghz)- both in performance as well as energy consumption. One other question. . . do those of you with the Badaxe2 MBs patched for sound get Dolby 5.1 from the digital out? I assume that you would, but just wanted to clarify. Thanks! AFAIK only the DBT-120 [revs prior to C1] bluetooth dongle, when flashed to Appple firmware 1.2/1.21, fully supports wake from sleepstates. This is a Bluetooth 1 dongle: the DBT-122 & DT-120 rev C1 [& later] are Bluetooth 2. Findibulator
I don't htink it's the dongle... It's the fact that my USB bus flaked out on resume. Anything I had plugged in has to be reconnected. No biggie, really. I just use S2 sleep for now. cos54r
TexAG I have got an Nvidia Geforce 7600GT card but just upgraded from a GeForce 6500. Just so when senile dementure sets in I have done myself a little reminder list for re-installing and it is as follows. I have done this 4 or 5 times now in this order and everything has been great each time. Install JAS 10.4.8 with no options ticked except Intel Kexts Install JAS 10.4.9 Update (Intel) then SMB/SIFS Fix Fix FSB to FSB266 [or whatever the fsb is set to in Bios if you overclock] in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.boot.plist by adding the following under the KernelFlags line<string>fsb=266</string> You'll have to change Permissions of the Folder first Install HDA Audio Support by dragging the STAC9274D Text File on to the AppHDAPatcher v1.15 Application Install NVIDIA NV40 for Graphics Driver (On the JAS 10.4.8 Disc) Lastly re-boot and install the 10.4.4 Login Window to recognize Core2Quad I'm certainly an osX86 novice and don't truly understand the teccy stuff but have dabbled in changing mach_kernels a couple of times but didn't really understand what I was doing but this combo is the only one that has proven to be most compatible for all my hardware. I've looked at the extensions in System Profiler and there are lots of references to 8.9.1 and guess this must be the what is being used. Sorry to be a little 'wet' but hope that helped Incidently it's a pretty awesome performer as I'm sure you know yourself. XBench results vary from 180-190 and Geekbench scores 5900. Cinebench R10 Multithreaded CPU scores 11800. It totally trashes my iMac G5 2.0 with video encoding and rendering and has made working with Video soooooo much quicker. Only one very small criticism is the Boot Time that from when the Apple Logo arrears is around 40/50 Seconds but because Sleep does work it's very rare that I re-Boot anyway. TexAg
cos54r Thanks for your detailed response. I am pretty much doing the exact same thing like your outline except the last step. I installed Natit Dual 02 graphics driver. I am going to try NV40 and see it that solves the sleep issue. Oh, and where do i get the 10.4.4 login window? cos54r
TexAg Search on isohunt.com for JAS.10.4.9.Combo.intel.sse3 and the 10.4.4 Loginwindow is bundled with the update. I have uploaded the torrentfile but not sure if has uploaded OK Hope it works for you. TexAg
Thanks for trying. I found the login window on the Jas Update file I had. So I tried NV40. Sleep worked for 10 minutes (I mean whenever I put it to sleep in the first 10 minutes), after that it hung while waking up. Back to square one. I installed NV40 from a package installer I found in the forum. How did you do it from the Jas 10.4.8 DVD. Did you boot from DVD and just installed the NV40 driver alone? I am going to start from scratch and do a fresh install according to your steps. I am curious...why did opt NOT to install NV40 while installing Jas 10.4.8 in Step 1? Seems like it would be easier. And also are you using a IDE hard drive? I have read in the forums Sleep works better with IDE drives than SATA drives. Thanks TexAg Search on isohunt.com for JAS.10.4.9.Combo.intel.sse3 and the 10.4.4 Loginwindow is bundled with the update. cos54r
Hi TexAG I'm using SATA Hard Drives and an IDE DVD. The NV40 is on the JAS Disc in System / Installation / Packages No need to Boot from the Disc it is an independant self installing package on the disc. The reason I didn't install the NV40 when I do the initial install was because when I had the Geforce 6500 there were some issues where the display would not work on booting into osX sometimes. I installed JAS Disc with no options ticked and then after doing the 10.4.9 updates etc installed the NV40. The startup problem has never been an issue since. Maybe it's just a fluke but works for me. Just out of interest what Bios are you using. As soon as I got the board I updated to the latest Bios which is the current one on the Intel Site. I read up a little on the board on the Web and people suggested the latest Bios update make for a more stable overclock. Only issue I have which has me scratching my head is RAM. I've currently got 2GB Corsair XMX2 PC6400 and I took another 2GB from a windows machine I have (Exactly the same RAM) and the BADAXE2 will not Boot at all with 4GB Ram????????? It will Boot to Post no problem with ANY 2 of the 1Gb sticks but put all 4 in and nothing. TexAg
cos54r, I have the latest Intel BIOS. I will try installing NV40 from the Jas Disk before starting over. Are you putting the RAMS in the right slots? Slot 1 & 3 are matched. So are 2 & 4. So I would put corsair in 1 & 3. And the other RAM on 2 & 4. oh just saw its the same RAM.... Are you able to go into BIOS and see if it recognizes the 4 GB? TexAg
SLEEP WORKS!!. Thanks cos54r's for your inputs. Didn't have any luck with Jas 10.4.9 & 8.9.1 Kernel. Was ready to give up and start from scratch and follow cos54r's Steps. Just on a whim, updated to 10.4.10 with 8.10.1 kernel from here: 10.4.10 Auto Installer with 8.10.1 Sleep works great after the update. I am using the NV40 graphics driver from Jas 10.4.8 DVD. I followed this thread to remove some of the graphics kexts(though I don't think this is necessary - I had done it before updating to 10.4.10): Edit NV40 to remove unwanted kexts A note about my hacks sleep behaviour: When the computer wakes up, it shows the desktop momentarily before going to a blue screen for 3-5 seconds. Then it again comes back to the desktop and everything works fine.
