So my shopping finally came in and I built the system right away!

This is what it consists of currently:

MSI NX7300GS-MD256EH GeForce 7300GS 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16

CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

GIGABYTE GA-945GZM-S2 LGA 775 Intel 945GZ Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - OEM

North Bridge = Intel 945GZ

South Bridge = Intel ICH7

Video Chipset = Intel GMA 950

Audio Chipset = Realtek ALC888
Realtek ALC883 audio codec (corrected)

LAN Chipset = Marvell 88E8001
Realtek 8110SC Gigabit Ethernet controller (corrected)

Intel Dual-Core E2140 Allendale 1.6GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E2140

I installed Uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4i_r3 to a PATA drive I had lying around. When installing I chose no Patches/Drivers/Applications. I only checked the 1.4i package (the OS itself)

Note: when erasing the drive I had to manually choose MBR partitioning scheme, since disk utility defaults to using GUID.

Once I had the OS running, I then installed Diabolik's 10.4.9 Nvidia installer (DiaboliK.1049.NVidia.Installer.zip) All is well with video. Hooray.

But I don't have working network or audio. :D

Where are the best driver installer packages for my particular hardware located?

Searching the forums is rather confusing for a noob.

Ultimately I'm trying to build a super wide-screen quicktime movie player under mac osx for cheap.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Davide-NYC

I have installed (well over-installed, or "upgraded") to include the Azalia driver and the Marvel 88E8001 drivers from the uphuck DVD, but I still do not have working audio or network. Hmmm.

So I then installed Skippyretard's ALC888 audio driver (ALC888Audio.mpkg.zip) and I still get nothing.

Then I try Diabolik's azalia fix v.2 (ALC880.Azalia.Fix.v2.pkg.zip) and I get the sound icon! But that patch wasn't even intended for my hardware...

... and now I have stereo sound (albeit through the wrong output jack, but who cares?)

This is weird. I am willing to do a clean install (erasing the disk) if any of you gurus think there is a chance that this hodge-podge of drivers might impact stability in any way.

Onto networking!

I would really consider doing a reinstall. After you installed the new drivers did you repair permissions? If not you might want to do that first and see what happens. If that doesn't work I would reinstall. It only takes about 10-15 mins depending on your cpu speed. It's worth it.

BTW I have sort of the same specs as you:

North Bridge = Intel 945G

South Bridge = Intel ICH7

Video Chipset = Intel GMA 950

Audio Chipset = Realtek ALC882

Lan Chipset = Intel Gigabit

Check this link out. I think it will get your ethernet card working. Also I was just cruzing through the green monster and found a driver pkg for your Marvell gigabit ethernet. Maybe try that one first. It's in the applications/Mac section. It was added Aug 30.

Good Luck,

Chevy

Since the last post I've tried to get networking running by installing NeoPheus's installer (RTL1xxx_1.02.pkg.zip) with gave me no love.

Then I tried installing DaemonES's pkg dierctly (RealtekR1000_release.pkg.zip) which worked!!!

Until I tried to reboot. Then *no networking love* once again. Man, I thought I was done and was really feeling lucky and happy. Oh well...

@ chevy2410: Thanks for the info. I will try a clean install and get the file you mentioned from the green monster

QUESTION: The chip on the mobo itself (looking at the mobo, not reading specs from websites and pdfs) say RTL8110SC. So shouldn't I be looking for RTL8110SC drivers instead of Marvell 88E8001 drivers? I'm confused.

It turns out there are different revisions fo this board. I have THIS one. (Rev3.x)

So I in fact have the following hardware:

Northbridge: Intel® 945GZ Express Chipset

Southbridge: Intel® ICH7

Realtek 8110SC Gigabit Ethernet controller

Realtek ALC883 audio codec

Clean install coming up...

Thanks to all in advance, Davide-NYC

Now download and use skippy's alc883 dirver audio in and out.

I am delighted to report that Video/Audio/Networking work out-of-the-box usisng uphuck's DVD.

I chose the following drivers from the install selections:

Nvidia Natit 0.2

Azalia Audio

Realtek R1000

That was it. I'm totally psyched.

@ Ahmad Moawya: I will install Skippy's ALC883 driver package (6port + digital) and will report back if it gives me mic input.

[update #1]

I can't seem to get the ALC883 driver to work. I installed it using both the 3 port no digital option and the 6 port digital option. Once I installed the ALC883 driver using either option I lost hardware detection, it showed no output device at all. So I installed the AzaliaAudio.pkg (vanilla 2 channel output) and all is back to square one. Which is fine with me although full hardware support for all of the audio I/O ports would be very cool.

[update #2]

Do I need to do yet another clean install? Should I not install an audio driver from Uphuck's DVD and *THEN* install Skippy's ALC883 package?

Thanks for your help everyone!

If you do another clean install I wouldn't install the audio driver from Uphucks dvd. I would install Skippy's driver after you get OS X booting. Now if you are going to upgrade to 10.4.10, do the upgrade first then install audio driver after.

Chevy

If I wanted to try to fix the audio *without* attempting a clean install is there a write-up or HowTo that I can refer to to help me with this? I don't want to re-intall a third time, but I will if I absolutely have to.

Thanks, Davide-NYC

If you really want to make sure everything is good to go, I would install again. Install only takes 15mins. Just skip the disk verification. This way you will know that nothing is messed up because you installed a driver and now can't get rid of it. Sometimes it's faster to install again then to try and fix the problem.

Chevy

Everything ROCKS!

The only thing (that I have bothered to test) that isn't working is all of the audio support. I get two channel output no problem, and since I only have two ears I could care less about all those other audio outputs. I just wish the microphone input was working. :(

@ sammosinga : Get the R1000 drivers here.

The only things I would have done differently:

1) I would have chosen a 16x PCIe motherboard. (this up is really only 4x)

2) I would have chosen a better video card. (the one I got is single-link DVI only)
