Hello guys,

I know that GeForce 8xxx cards do not have full support in OS X. I heard that those cards works, but without acceleration. Is that truth?

The thing is I already bought 8800 GTS for new games upcoming and I really do not want to sell it. I wonder how it works without acceleration in OSX? Like MacBook/Mac Mini's GMA950? Or slower?

Also, is this a good idea to wait for better 8xxx drivers or should I just sell it and buy 7xxx?

i have an 8800gts 640mb with no CI/QE. Also this means software OpenGL. Forgot about playing games on osx with these cards(for now). Although people are working on getting these cards to work, don't hold your breath waiting as it seems that no one has really got anywhere with it.

Thanks.

Does "no CI/QE" mean GMA950-like (MacBook-like, MacMini-like) graphics? Or worse?

Do you mean there is big change my video card will not work and I need to do a lot of things to make it work?

well i can run full res on my monitor which is 1680x1050 (manually set). Graphics performance in games will be horrible as it uses the apple software renderer(insert useless for 3d games ..no hardware support at all).

your video card will work but with no acceleration at all. I am happily using osx86 box right now to post this message ;-)

I will install Vista for games. So, "no CI/QE" means only "no acceleration in games", right?

Does it work (without acceleration) without any drivers, or I need to install something?

Most of the major elements of Final Cut Studio require it as does CS3. Actually, unless your computer needs are very simple (text, email, basic internet), a hackintosh without qe and ci is not much of a joy. It would still be good for learning the OS though, while you're waiting to upgrade your present equipment or to buy a real mac.

I see. So it's worse that GMA950. I think I will buy 7xxx.

Thanks for advices guys.

This is the thread I am looking for.

I am in decision to buy some nvidia 8xxx card for my new computer.

But I would like also to install OSx86 for basic software development at least to be able to develop something and to start to learn this OS.

Do you think the nvidia 8xxx card is suitable for me???

When is expected the nvidia 8xxx cards will be fully supported???

Do you think nvida 8xxx cards with more then 256mb is even worse, did you need to change ROM for that card to get it work????

actually i take back part of my statement. I actually think these 8xxx cards will eventually work. I have seen for the first time a real ioreg dump from a working 8600 MB Pro and there are a number of new values that are required. I am still trying out different values to see how i go.....i also noticed someone mentioned they actually got one working on another thread. I am not convinced that the larger mem cards will cause any extra problems aither as i ahve had my system pick up the full 640mb of my card without "forcing any values".....keep a close eye on these forum's, i am hopefull a solution will be presented soon.
