My install disk is uphuck's v1.4iR3 which I immediately updated using koolkal's 10.4.10 installer. I then installed all the latest updates from Apple. Because of previous experience with CS3, (running the apps, not installing them) I knew I was going to have to upgrade my AppleSMBIOS to v1.06. No trouble with my rig running Photoshop CS3 or any other CS3 app after that.

Ipguy, maybe an additional question to ask is "What download of Photoshop CS3 are people using that works?" Unless you are using a retail version (I'm using the version that came with my Adobe CS3 Production Premium that I purchased for my Mac Pro), there are tons of different places and versions of Photoshop that people have d/l'd. Some may be using it from stand alone d/l. Others may be installing it from with a package.

I've installed Design Premium on 3 machines successfully, 2 by replacing AppleSMBIOS.kext the third by 'patching'

Using a 'utility' also allowed me to install Master Collection on one of those Intel machines after replacing AppleSMBIOS.kext

2 that worked w/ replacing the AppleSMBIOS.kext were Intel, the one that didn't work was AMD...

I also noticed that on the AMD machine, prior to patching the applications, the error it would give was different than on the Intel machines.

On the AMD machines, the apps would crash on launch but it would be a Finder error message window. On the Intel machines they would crash at launch but they'd be an Adobe error message window. Replacing AppleSMBIOS.kext (WTF is it anyway) would correct the problem on the Intel machines.

All three machines are running uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3

AMD Rig = Dual Opteron 252, 2GB RAM

Intel Rig 1 = P4-Prescott 3GHz 1GB RAM

Intel Rig 2 = Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz 4GB RAM (About this Mac = CPU unknown, profiler shows correct CPU info)

I'm beginning to wonder if Adobe coded into CS3 a check for AMD vs Intel?

gimpyviper, thanks. I found said "patch" and now PS CS3 Extended is working perfect on my AMD machine.

I don't see why Adobe would care if you have AMD or a hackintosh. As long as you purchased the software. It also seems strange that this crack would fix it. Perhaps in circumventing activation, it is (coincidentally) also circumventing this AMD check, should it exist.

It also appears Apple is doing the same thing (more logically) with iLife 08. Some of the apps don't work on AMD. Details here.
