DanB91
try booting with: cpus=1 -x or both thanx, i just tried that w/ it shutting down again. i tried also: -removing my hdd -making my dvd drive primary instead of secondary -removing all of my pci cards -taking out the mobo battery -using a different dvd drive all with it shutting down while booting up idk what to do next. and i think i read on the wiki osx86 is compatible w/ the 8100 anyone w/ more suggestions would be greatly appreciated Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/60865-what-does-halted-by-root-mean/#findComment-435131 Share on other sites
iSkylla
I have this sometimes. Try formatting the partition that you will be using before booting up. Sometimes it's just a quirky setting on the comp. It's frustrating when it happens. DanB91
i deleted the partitions now its just empty space, but still same results. i managed to capture the entire screen thought when it shuts down (it should be clear enough) first line says "halted by root" maybe that means something?? aster
I had a similar problem in one of my machines. The problem was that my video card was not working 100%. I changed the video card and problem solved. Try with another video card (some friend). Maybe you have the same problem. Good luck! DanB91
thank u for replying lol i tried taking out the pci cards. taking memory, fooling w. the master slave configurations w/ no avail. but this error message "halted by root" may mean something, i just need to know what that means Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/60865-what-does-halted-by-root-mean/#findComment-438042 Share on other sites
Superhai
can you start it up in single user mode? halted by root means that your root account has issued the halt program. you need to find out what happened before i.e. why it is called. if all your components are changed i would guess you have a faulty motherboard or other components you haven't changed...
