I don't really understand what you mean, but I guess that you want to update your hackintosh to 10.4.10! Well don't ever use a system update from apple on your hackintosh or it will break your system. Hacks are different from normal macs. If you want to update to 10.4.10 use the instructions I wrote. bonestonne
its an update that i found for hackintosh on the pir....[anywho] its a patched update for OSx86 that will update the system to 10.4.10, kernel 8.10.1. since when it comes to OS X/XP i'm more of just an end user [i like to really get into it in Linux though] i'm a little shakey about doing certain things. Don't forget to backup your extensions!!!! thats one line that i don't understand as well. i'm not in a situation where its manditory that i update, but i'm wondering how safe it is for me to use this specific update. i will look at your guide as well, thanks for that. Davejb
I used the Pascal 10.4.10 update with no problems, is this the one your talking about?
bonestonne
yes it is pascalW's 10.4.10 update. i'm going to back up my system now to my secondary internal drive [for data storage and swap within the system] and try it out tomorrow morning. hopefully all will go well. eventually i'll be running Final Cut Pro HD, so i'd like to be as up to date as possible with the system to ensure maximum compatibility. thanks for the reply
bonestonne
first try only worked mostly. i installed it, restarted, recognized OS 10.4.10, however there was something wrong with graphics. i backed everything up and will be trying to update again without updating graphics this time. off to continue reinstalling. ----------------------- when using pascalW for 10.4.10 update with 8.10.1 kernel, only select the graphic update if you have to. aside from that my installation is absolutely perfect, not a single problem. cubswinfllclssic
just FYI, I had no problems updating from JaS 10.4.8 to 10.4.10 with the delta update. I would definitely advise that you don't install ANY updates other than the kernel update if everything on your system is already working. And, as a precaution, always back up your kexts-- I backed up my whole /System/Library/Extensions folder to a USB drive just in case... I think the delta update creates a backup folder automatically on your root drive.
Davejb
As a side question, after installing the 10.4.10 update, is it ok to apply the security updates via software update or would that be asking for trouble?
bonestonne
well, its up and running fine, not a problem. i did take a peek at system update however and noticed the security update. i'm not entirely sure if i'll get that. i know that i need to install a newer version of X11 and Airport and Quicktime, however that one security update i'm not sure of how it will act in OSx86. after i just checked Software Update again, theres an Audio update, if you're like me and needed drivers to get audio working, i'm not sure this will be a safe update.
