ricren
HI, I was about to buy an Asus P5K for my new machine when I read about the lack of AHCI support in the new bios of this particular model. So I begin to search for a new candidate. I'm currenly running an AsRock Conroe 945-DVI and works very very well, so I went to the AsRock site and found this recently announced motherboard, that looks very promising for a moderately priced machine. Just include an Intel Q6600 and cound be the fundation of a very fast and cheap machine. http://www.asrock.com/news/show.asp?id=111 Tell me what you think Ric Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/60629-asrock-4core1333-esata2/ Share on other sites
macimesser
Today I get my new machine with a ASROCK 4Core1333-FullHD MoBo and an Intel Q6600. It doesn´t boot the installation-DVD (JAS10.4.8 and some different ones). The 10.4.8 was the only one that shows the normal boot screen, but nothing happens, and iI wait a long time. I also try to boot a hd from another x86 machine, same problem (but no boot sreen). May be its the chipset? Should I change the mobo? ricren
HI, When I proposed this motherboard (4Core1333-eSATA2) was for the INTEL chipset. I bought an Asus P5K but I'm not particulary happy with the HD performance, so I'm reconsidering this Asrock mother. It's cheap and potencially very compatible. It has the ICH7R, that works well with OSX. Your's have an ATI chipset that could be less compatible or not compatible at all. It's a gamble. Search the board for ATI™ RS600 + SB600 Chipsets. May be there's some fix for it. Have luck. Ric Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/60629-asrock-4core1333-esata2/#findComment-484846 Share on other sites

totem
it should ... it should ... it should ... just build some setup with this mobo and test it then ... there is no place for wishes without checking right mantra is: it wont ... it wont ... it wont ... it wont ... at the moment we have (osx86 enthusiasts) something worse than childhood of linux ... so be very carefully of course i hope for the best :] Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/60629-asrock-4core1333-esata2/#findComment-486574 Share on other sites
antst
Experimenting with this board right now. It can't boot even install DVD. Hangs after: "MAC Framework successfully initialized using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers" For sure it is not PATA/SATA issue, cause I tried also USB boot and flat image. Guess it is BIOS issue. But no luck in attempts to find related information. -= Douglas =-
Yep, me... and unluckily it doesn't seem to work... Every distro I tried (ToH RC2, Kalyway, IATKOS) hangs up during initial boot from DVD... 1) ToH RC2 hangs up freezing at line "Using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers" 2) Kalyway hangs up at the same point, but instead of freezing, it continues rebooting in loop 3) IATKOS hangs up at the same point, but instead of freezing with a text screen, it shows the Apple screen with lines rotating endlessly I tried to boot with several options (platform=x86pc, -v, -x, -legacy, noacpi, cpus=1, ecc...) with no luck; same result changing several mobo BIOS related to CPU, ACPI and IDE functions... Let's hope someone will be able to release a distro solving this problem: it's a real mess OSx86 does't work on this mobo, considering its features... Which distro did you use? Which BIOS rev do you have? "Jettisoning kernel linker" It is a bit more far than what I've seen so far. It means that you got boot device. Good sign. Best I've seen is hang when wait for root device with CPUS=1. If you managed to go further without CPUS=1, then probably we will be able to get it fully working with OSX. ronocker
I tried again with iAtkos1.0i R2 with -s -x cpus=1 and got these results: MAC Framework successfully initialized using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers Extension "com.apple.driver.ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style. antst
BIOS 1.40 and kalyway 10.5.1 should I try it with Bios 1.00 ? Don't think it will help. Did you use extra args at boot with kalyway? ronocker
has nobody an idea? I think, there must be a way to get it working on this motherboard. jabdog
Just in case anybody else is having trouble with this board i located my problem. I was booting from USB DVD as i had no internal DVD. In order to boot i had to disable usb2 support in the bios. Once that was done no trouble installing with the modified bios to get all cores working. Boas
Hi all. Thanks for a great forum. About the Asrock 4core 1333-esata2, here's what I did: I downloaded a modified 1.40 bios (link is found in this thread) and flashed it, using Afudos.exe. Made a bootable USB stick with HP-tools, and copied Afudos and the bios to the USB-drive. Then I changed the bios settings to match the advised settings for osx86: Sata set to ACHI and so on... Booted with iPc 10.5.6 and went on from there. Onboard sound works with Azalia (only output). Only problem I have now is the onboard FireWire. When I connect something to the port it recognizes my device, but I can't use the device. Hard drives can't copy or anything, soundcards makes only intermediate sounds. Any ideas? Would be very helpful! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/60629-asrock-4core1333-esata2/#findComment-1211249 Share on other sites
