ArkaPro
hello, Here is what I just ordered! INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q6600 2.4GHZ 1066MHZ 8MB 64BIT BOXTT Big Typhoon 120 vx [*]ASUS P5K DELUXE (going to use asap18's bash script) [*] CORSAIR TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX DDR2 4GB (2GBX2) 800MHZ CL5 XMS DH [*]SAPPHIRE X1950XT ATI RADEON X1950XT 256MB DDR3 DVI VIVO PCI-E (going to use Jcool's method) ZALMAN VF700 Cu FULL COPPER VGA COOLER LED [*]4 Hard drives - W.D WD5000AAKS 500GB SATA II 7200RPM 16MB BUFFER [*]CORSAIR 520W CMPSU-520HX [*]ASUS DVDRW X18 DRW-1814BLT DUAL LAYER LIHGTSCRIBE SATA BLACK OK, I'm a Video Editor, but going to use the computer for Internet, Office, games and other appz as well as the Adobe Production suite and Final Cut Studio. I'm totally green in Mac and Hackintosh. I want to run windows XP, Vista and OSX. Can you please tell me how should I divide and use the HDDs most efficiently? My purpose is that both systems (PC and Mac) will be able to access Media such as music, sound effects, graphics and all other media files etc. So I would be able to share and use them cross platform. when I think about it, all of the HDDs are from the same manufacturer and model. won't it be difficult during let's say; BIOS HDD boot selection and installation to know which is which?I mean, don't you think it's going to be tricky to setup from which Drive to Boot?Maybe its better to buy diffrent companies or models of 500GB HDDs? If you have anything to advise about the hardware configuration above please do! I understand there is JaS and Uphuck Editions of OS X.Which is better suited for my hardware/purposes, what is the difference between the two? will the Jcool method and asap18's bash script, fit my configuration? should I change anything in the hardware configuration? Thank you! and wish me good luck! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/59877-just-ordered-the-killing-mechine/ Share on other sites

Thank you! and wish me good luck! I won't comment on everything... Hardware looks good. Maybe go with a bigger Power Supply. You are running 5 drives and if you add another DVD or so, you'll be happy you did. I am partial to Plextor as well. They are the best and since you chose Western Digital drives, I can see where you want to be. I am partial to JaS. I run entire magazine graphics departments with these as well as heavy video editing. The systems are crash proof. JaS 10.4.8 with 10.4.9 upgrade and then 10.4.10 manually. I was happiest at 10.4.9. The only time that you will confuse the drives is switching them in the BIOS. They all look pretty similar there. Depending on how you load your OS's, (one drive or one on each) you will find that it doesn't matter at all. How you load your OS's will drive the bootloader that you choose though... With Vista in the mix, I would go with Easy BCD... CraWea
This is terrific! I was about to order pretty much the same system, but I might make the setup identical to yours if you can confirm that it works well. I will also be using the machine primarily for editing, so I'm hoping that you might be able to tell me how the setup works for this purpose. Also, if you could possibly indicate the level of support for dual screen/extended desktop. Any information you can give regarding stability/performance/configuration, I'll be very happy to receive. Headrush69
I run entire magazine graphics departments with these as well as heavy video editing. Any your bosses cool with that? I know the publisher/printer I was involved with (only about 25 DTP Mac machines) would never ever take that chance.
