exscape
1) When you press Enter on a selected file in the Finder, you get a rename-box. How do you execute/open the file using the keyboard? 2) When you get a dialog box, i.e. a Save/Don't save, enter presses the default button. How do you change to another button, again using the keyboard? Thanks in advance. antst
1) "CMD+DownArrow" will execute/open. "CMS+UpArrow" will go to parent folder. 2) Tab usually works for choosing. But there is difference from window. Enter will always press "default" button, but "space" will press selected. If it wasn't clear, I'm talking about sheets, like this. antst
This one didn't work, though. Tab doesn't do anything, and neither does spacebar. If it wasn't clear, I'm talking about sheets, like this. I tries exactly the same dialog right now. It works By "Tab" you select button. By space you press it. Probably you mistaken by default button been always highlighted. When you press Tab, you change active button (with blue shadow). This button will be pressed by Space. Default button is always highlighted and can be press by Enter regardless of current active button. It is different behavior than in windows. More handy, cause usually default button and initial active button are different and you can choose what you need by one key. In this dialog which you shown, you can select all three buttons by one key press in default state "Enter" press "Save". "Space" press "Don't save", because it is initially active button. "Esc" press "Cancell" . Addition: I've checked you screenshoot. It seems that you don't have highlighted active button. You have to switch on "Full keyboard access" to "all controls" in "Keyboard & Mouse" preferences. Headrush69
If it wasn't clear, I'm talking about sheets, like this. Try Esc for Cancel and Command-D for Don't Save Edit: Addition: I've checked you screenshoot. It seems that you don't have highlighted active button. You have to switch on "Full keyboard access" to "all controls" in "Keyboard & Mouse" preferences. Or do that. :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/59257-two-stupidly-simple-os-x-questions/#findComment-422284 Share on other sites

You have to switch on "Full keyboard access" to "all controls" in "Keyboard & Mouse" preferences. Thanks! That was the culprit. Try Esc for Cancel and Command-D for Don't Save That works too, although it's not as universal. Still, good tip with the Cmd-d - thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/59257-two-stupidly-simple-os-x-questions/#findComment-422299 Share on other sites

Synaesthesia
Go to system preferences. Click on keyboard and mouse. There is a tab where you can reconfigure the system keys.
