cringemaster
Since my Beige G3 finally died, I decided to build a cheap little hackitosh, but I only have half an idea of where to start. So thats where all you helpful and courteous people come in . I Have never built my own PC, but know enough to make it through without too many hitches, hopefully, so this will be a cool semi-learning experience for me. I want to keep the budget for parts under 150, or, if its even possible, 100. I know that sounds incredibly frugal, but I already have a seagate barracuda, a Lite-On DVD-RW, and the old 150W power supply (and a case of course). But it appears that the connector might not be compatable with what I may be buying, so new power supply may be inevitable. I also, wanna keep as much of the old hardware look as possible. I know Ill end up redoing most of the backplate, but I want to keep as much of it looking "stock apple" as possible. Thats why I want to keep the old power supply, hence one less hole to cut. I also want to keep the power button and LED functional. There is also a crappy little speaker built into the case, and it would be cool it that could be used as well, but if not, whetever. As far as performance goes, it just needs to work and be as compatable as possible. A really cheap Core Duo 1.66 would get the job done. If it performed as well as a mac mini I would be happy. And graphic performance is the same. As long as the integrated graphics is equal to that of a mac mini, Im happy, for now . Yeah i know, "why not just buy a mac mini for that performance?" , its certainly smaller than a beige g3 desktop . Well, I probably should, but then I wouldnt have the expandability I want for the future. This will not be replacing my mac mini or any of my older mac hardware, or any newer mac purchases for that matter. I actually plan on leaving this at school to use some graphics and video work. And maybe for archicad or vectorworks. Also I dont expect anyone to configue a complete PC for me (unless you want to help me out that much ). I just need for them to point me in the right direction (prefferebly through newegg). As an OSx86 noob, I'll appreciate the help. vbetts
Need to know how many pins the psu has, otherwise if you can't use the psu with the mobo, then it's kind of useless then...=] Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/59014-need-a-cheap-osx86-compatable-mobo-and-processor/#findComment-421155 Share on other sites
