buzzert
Hello all! I have been running OSX on my PC for quite a while now (10.4.10 on ASUS p5ld2 deluxe). I have been running it on a 40gb IDE HD, but I just recently purchased a 300gb SATA HDD. So, I thought it would be easy, just run CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper! and that would be it. I was WRONG. It has been a complete nightmare. The first time I tried using SuperDuper!. It was successful on copying all of my data to the new HD, but I was completely unable to boot from it. I got the black screen with the blinking cursor on the top left. So, I looked at FDisk, it said the primary partition didn't have the bootable flag, so I flagged it. No go, still the black screen with the blinking cursor. Then I thought something must have happened to the bootloader. So I tried to install the Acronis OS Selector, it wouldn't detect the OSX partition, just nothing there, even tried the OS wizard, checked the MBR, nothing, checked the files, couldn't access them. Then I thought I must have accidentally set the partition map to GUID, nope, it was MBR like it's supposed to. Then, I tried several other cloning utilities like CarbonCopyCloner, which managed to successfully get passed the bootloader, but now it hangs at some irrelevant point in the bootup process (the HDD light is off, and verbose mode says nothing relevant). Then, I tried installing OSX 10.4.7 over again, it booted successfully, but then I tried cloning my 10.4.10 disk (with all of my data with it) onto the same partition (without reformatting it, retaining it's MBR and partition table), it hangs at bootup again. I also tried reformatting the disk with the patched Disk Utility in JaS 10.4.7 install disk, nothing. I also even tried dd'ing my old disk onto my new one, nothing. PLEASE help, I have been struggling with this for several days straight now (it's a good thing it's summer vacation I suppose). It seems I have literally tried everything. Has anyone been able to copy their data (with system data) to a new HDD successfully?
bilybrown
Buzzert, google clonetool hatchery, (or look it up on w w w . n i c e m a c . c o m) worked great for me. It actually has a feature which allows hackintosh users to clone bootable drives. Make sure you run the installer scripts first though.
