Hello,

Ive recently installed OSX86 on my Acer Aspire 5570Z using JaS 10.4.8 and also tried the uphuck install DVD. My laptop it originally came with an Atheros 5007EG Wifi card that was not compatible as I searched through other threads then I decided to purchase a new mini pci express wifi card. I had read that the trumobile 1390 worked natively, However after installation my laptop does not see it as an Airport at all I get no indication that it even is being detected, although it is detected in Linux, so Im assuming it is working, any help or ideas?

OKay, point one, I see you have not made many posts here, but it is generally considered polite to wait 48 hours since your initial post for someone to respond before you "bump" your thread. 7 hours is hardly enough time, especially when you post at close to 2 in the morning.

Point two...How bout telling us a little about the laptop that this card is installed in. I see the desktop specs on your sig, but nothing about your laptop.

Point three, What chipset does the 1390 use?

In general the more information your provide the quicker someone is likely to help you.

My Laptop Specs:Intel Pentium Dual Core T2060 1.6 GHz14" WXGAIntel GMA 950 [Device Manager Mobile Intel 945GM/GU Express family chipset]DVD burner HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-10N ATA device2GB RAM 80GB HDD via Intel 82801 GBM/GHM (ICH7-M Family) SATA storage controller 27C4WiFi Atheros AR5007EG Ethernet Marvell Yukon 88E8038 PCIE Fast Ethernet ControllerRealtek HD AudioSory for being impatient its just that this SHOULD be working without a hitchbut I think it is because it is an Acer it is not working correctly-MickAlso the Dell Truemobile 1390 is a Broadcom 4311 chipset

Ahh, sounds like you are one of the many users having problems with the 4311. I would suggest you check out this thread for an explanation of the problem.

[Good Info] Acer/Compaq/Etc. WiFi Killswitch Fix, For those of you who can't seem to get WiFi working...

Just to clarify though...so far the card is NOT working.

Alright, I did the pin 20 trick...still no go..hmm I dont think it is a power issue as was first thought because if I do a kextstat I can see that the AppleBCMxx driver is loaded and I have wierd problems with the card installed like when I shutdown I get a panic.. Wonder whats going on?

No it doesnt show up at all and I get a panic on shutdown...the card doesnt show up anywhere except like I said it loads the AppleAirportBCMxx bundle..I wonder if it is a propitary (sic) thing to Acers, I looked up the PCI Express pinouts and port 20 is reserved..

hrm, are you sure it's not the kext? even when i was taping the wrong pin, it would never panic. try removing the kext temporarily to see if the system boots.

just to confirm the pin, it's the second pin to the left of the notch. in the diagram below you can see the first pin is 18, next to that is 20.

TKMan,

If you would actually read the thread you posted a link to, you will see that MANY people have been unable to get the Broadcom 4311 working even with the tape trick. The problem appears to be at the mini PCI Express bus and not the card itself. We have verified that taping over pin 20 on our cards will set them to an always on state by dual-booting into Windows or Linux.

I suppose a 2 pin (or more) issue might be it, but I don't think so. We have tested the tape method on our cards, and it DOES control power to the radio on the card. If we taped over pin 20 we found in both Windows and Linux, the card was on an "always on" state. The software switch would do nothing at all. In some of our laptops even (such as the Compaq V552US) there is a BIOS setting to boot the laptop with the wifi turned on.

The problem definitely seems not to have anything to do with power. Our best guess is it is the PCI express bus. I have requested help from the guru's here, but no one yet has gotten around to answering. I would suggest you just follow the previously mentioned thread as that is where the majority of the discussion is going on.

Unfortunately this problem seems to be unique to specifcally laptops that came with the 4311. I previously had a 4318 in a different laptop and that one worked beautifully. I does not seem to effect all 4311 enable laptops though. There are reports of the 4311 working perfectly. One of the things I am trying to determine that might lead to a clue is whether or not anyone with a 4311 on a PCI Express bus is working. I know the mini PCI ones are working flawlessly. I just have not found anyone who has a 4311 on a mini PCI Express bus.
