Thanks everyone for your help. I got it installed with: Mac OS X 10.4.9 Intel SSE3 [JaS 10.4.8 AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2.iso + JaS.10.4.9.Combo.Update.Intel.SSE3.zip]

Selected Intel 10.4.8ATAkexts

Nvidia NV40Support

Make sure you DONT use a Nvidia 8000 series card. Once I popped in the 7600GT it loaded fine.

( I still have yet to get the ethernet/audio working though )

NEED SOME HELP!! All I'm asking for is a few minutes of your time. :)

I spent three days trying to get OSX running on my system and I'm losing it. I'm not a coder, just some guy who doesn't want to shell out 3x the cash for an Apple machine. Can someone PLEASE give me a step-by-step for my system? If I get it working I'll give a donation to Uphuck's project!!!!

I have 10.4.9 v1.4i r2 as well as GParted Live.

Here are my specs:

MSI P6N SLI Platinum

-LGA 775 | North Bridge: NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI | South Bridge: NVIDIA nForce 430i

-Audio Chipset: Realtek ALC888 HD Audio | LAN Chipset: Realtek RTL8211BL

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor

G.SKILL 4GB (4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

EVGA GeForce 8600GTS - PCI Express x16 and also a EVGA GeForce 7600 GT

WD EIDE 250GB HD

-------------------

I booted GParted Live and ran the default setting since I don't know what all the other options are. I can't figure out where I can select msdos partition or MBR in the DiskUtil. I tired FAT32 but of course OSX installer didn't find the HD. When I used DiskUtil on the OSX disk I selected Partition 1 and left it to the default partition since they didn't have the MBR in the dropdown. It installed fine but then after a reboot it had a blank screen with a blinking cursor. I know the disk had notes but I have no idea how to configure it like he suggested.

On a side note: will having the 8600 Nvidia card cause issues with getting this to work, or will I just have vid problems with resolution, performance, etc? I can swap it out for the 7600GT that I have if that will work better…

Please, if someone could give me a step-by-step, including what boxes to check, I would be grateful!!!!!! I doubt any of you would want to see me run to the Apple store to buy a Mac right?! :yoji:

When I used DiskUtil on the OSX disk I selected Partition 1 and left it to the default partition since they didn’t have the MBR in the dropdown.

Boot up your OSX disc and then go into disk util, choose your HD and then go to "Partition" and then near the bottom you will see a button called "options". Click it and choose "Master Boot Record". This will take care of the flashing cursor issue. Exit out and go ahead with the rest of the install.

I can swap it out for the 7600GT that I have if that will work better…

I would be tempted to swap out that 8600 and use the 7600 instead.

Now your audio and lan shouldn't be an issue. I believe the patches are on the uphuck 1.4i R2 disc. I might be a little worried about the NVIDIA nForce 650i chipset. Go ahead and try out different chipset patches and see what happens. It took me about 7 different installs untill I was able to get 1.4i R2 disc to install. It's trial and error. :yoji:

Good luck and keep us informed,

Chevy

Thanks Chevy, I'll try that. About that video card; would you suggest I install the 7600 before installation or should I see what happens with the 8600? I know there are still issues with the 8000 series and I wasnt sure if that would be a problem with installing OSX...

Thanks Oracle,

Yes and no. When I get to #7, you're erasing the disk but don’t you have to partition? I don’t know what to select to get it to boot. For some reason I can’t find MBR in the dropdown where it says Mac OS (Extended partition). Chevy said it's under Options, at the bottom of the partition window. I'll have to look for it when I get home.

I was also hoping that someone could guide me as to what check boxes I need to select based on my hardware. Does anyone have a screenshot of all the choices in this installer? Do I need to check the first box, something about Uphucks v1.4 patches? What about for my video card; Titan or the other? Since I have dual core, I should select the SpeedFast patch correct? Should I also select USB and the Azillia patch as well or try it without first?

What's a Kernel anyways? I know... I’m really new to all of this. Can you imagine that I’m going through all this trouble for one application!!!!!

Basicly you have to give enough space to evry operating system you use or use an inividual HD for each one that is better.

First of all chek the installation with the onboard devices (VGA, LAN, Sound, etc) on your motherboard and then plug one by one the cards you want to use.

Use basic packages on installation and basic input devices like ps2 mouse and keyboard.

* disable S.M.A.R.T. from bios.

The drop down menu is to select the file system. When you get into disk util you want to select the partition tab and then near the bottom you will see the options button. Click it and then select "Master Boot Record". Click ok and then click partition. Once done you can carry on with the install.

As for getting someone to tell you what to check off, I'm not sure anyone will give you a complete guide. Even though you may have the same hardware as someone else doesn't mean it will work for you to. All you need to check off is the main system (I think it's called), the first box and then you want to check off what video card you have and what audio you have. Now I have a Intel GMA950 video card and I select it in the VGA section of the drivers. I don't have any experience with Nvidia or ATI cards so I don't know you should select. For audio I select the Azalia audio driver. I think you have the same audio as me so I think it would be ok to install the Azalia driver. Lan driver for me works right out of the box. Yours may as well. If it doesn't just pop the install disc back in and let it mount then navigate to where the drivers are and choose the one to install by double clicking it. I never had to install usb drivers at all. Worked right out of the box. You might want to find out what chipset you have and what driver you need for it. Mine is ich7 and I have the Intel 945 chipset. You may need the ich8, which I think is the newest.

What type of Keyboard and mouse are you using, PS\2 or USB? If PS\2 then install the PS\2 driver. USB is way easier, although when I was first installing OSX over a year ago there wasn't any PS\2 drivers available.

Install the loginwindow10.4.4 patch and the smbios patch. Unless you have wireless ignore anything wireless and mobility tagged. Anyway this should get you going. You may have to install over and over before you get one that works, so be patient. The good thing is it only takes about 20mins from start to finish to install.

Keep us informed,

Chevy:)

@WhatzUpInIL

using 1.4ir2

1- it is not about fat32 or file system, u just need a mbr partition type hd which u can prepare with both gparted and diskutil

2- it is about your sata controller which is nforce4, I will add the right support in 1.4i r3, older revisions of 1.4i are testing and I am trying to make it better with most hardware support less conflictions. I hope you read about the issues for nforce sata driver, it is experimental, so i advice u to use pata hd for os x.

3- use 7600gt as you already know

4- read the 1.4i readme for very well known issues like blinking cursor or such errors..

Uphuck beat me to it. :)

Stick with the 7600. Does that mobo have onboard video by chance?

I would try it without USB driver and go back to the ICH8R driver. Did you also check off the logonwindow 10.4.4 and the AppleSMBIOS? Also check off the "Remove CPU Power Management" as well.

When you replaced the 8600.... you did shut comp down right? Is that 7600 vid card a GS? I found a thread and that Titan drive WILL work with the 7600 you have.

When you first boot the disc and it asks you if to press any button to boot or F8 for more options, press F8 and then type -v and hit enter. Not sure if you knew that or not. Now you will be able to see everything load and if there are any errors you will be able to see what they are. If all goes well you will be in the OSX gui and be ready to install OSX.

Were you able to change to Master Boot Record?

Chevy:)

Hey guys, thanks for all your help thus far. I really appreciate it. Still no dice though...

My card is a EVGA 7600 GT. I'm not sure if it has onboard video. After checking the site I dont think so. What is that anyways? Yes I did shut my system down before swapping cards.

Sorry dude, I thought you had SATA drive. Do what uphuck said. Let's see what's the hang up.

I'm not sure if it has onboard video. After checking the site I dont think so. What is that anyways?

Onboard video is where the motherboard has a video chip integrated on the motherboard it's self. No need for a video card. If you have a VGA connection on the back of the tower, then you have it. If you don't..... then you don't have it.

Chevy

Dont worry about it Chevy. I'm glad that you're here to help. :) I dont have onboard video on the motherboard.

How do you take a screen shot when booting in -v? How do you also get that screenshot onto a disc/usb flash drive so I can bring it into windows? Do I need to check any of the Ich's?

What I can do today is install this config uphuck:

Erased IDE HD (its not a SATA HD)

Remove CPU Power Management

natit 0.2

First off, I want to commend you for jumping into the pool with both feet. Sounds like this is a real challenge for you. My advice would be to check only the very basic items, system, natit, and maybe audio at first. If you skip the disk check at installation, it only takes about 10 minutes or so to install uphuck's OSX. Experimentation is one of the best ways to learn. You can then go back and add things one at a time to see if you even need them. In the worst case scenario, it's simply a quick erase and 10 minute re-install to start again. The initial disk check is the longest step in the whole process and since you've already verified your disk works, no need to recheck it each time you install. Hope this helps and good luck!

edit: Oh yes, and for learning purposes, I'd start off with the 7600GT gfx card since that's already known to work. Once you get a little accustomed to getting a basic system up and running, you can always go back and add the more challenging things that aren't totally supported yet.

Does anyone know how to take a screenshot after a -v bootup? I would like to be able to post my problems here with an image. Also once you take the screenshot how do you get it to windows XP? Flash drive? Thanks!

Are able to even boot the install disc to the point where you use disk util to partition your disc? I'm a little confused as to where you are having the issues. If you are able to install and then upon reboot you get a kernel panic that's one thing, but if you can't even boot the disc to the gui for install that's another.

How do you take a screen shot when booting in -v? How do you also get that screenshot onto a disc/usb flash drive so I can bring it into windows?

Do you have a digital camera? That maybe the best way.

Chevy

Thanks guys. I did what you suggested BJMoose and started with the bare minimum. Uphuck, I didnt check ich8r.

Anyone have any solutions for this error? I got the same one in round three and Im not sure what else I need to check. Any help would be appreciated!!! Also, how do you take a screenshot after hitting -v and and get that over to my windows maching to post it here?

:edit: I tried the Uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4i and it didn't work for me, it seems geared more towards Intel processors on boards with Intel chipsets. That being said...

It sounds like you most likely need the nforce4 sata drivers. There's a post by bikerdude something or other here where it's all discussed. Since the drivers aren't on the install disc, you'll have to do it all by command line before boot. Also, go into BIOS and try disabling core1 of your cpu. I still cannot get my otherwise near-perfect install to work with both cores. Works great with 1 core. A drawback of the 680i nforce boards... :/

Tittles, well Im not using a SATA drive. I also have the 650i board, Im not sure how different my board is from yours. I thought the r1.4i v2 should work with both cores....

Does anyone else have any suggestions about getting rid of the error Im getting? Thanks!
