Hey Josh,

as you can see in my signature I'm running a Q6600 on the GA-P35-DS4.

I used the JaS 10.4.8 SSE2/3 & PPF1/2 + update to 10.4.9

You have to install using an IDE or USB-DVD or use the patched Install-DVD. Rest of the Installation works without any problems.

Gigabit Onboard-LAN works flawlessly with the RTL-Installer you can find here.

Absolutely no sound. I use an external USB-Device for it.

SATA and IDE are qorking. FW and all USB working.

The BIOS offers everything you need to overclock. But I'm not in OC.

I got a nice case for it yesterday: The ASUS TA-211 in white. Not Apple but really nice although.´

Thanks dude,

What does the no ICH9-SATA in your sig mean (assuming you're running SATA drives in AHCI mode)?

Also need to double check something you mentioned: "must install using IDE or USB-DVD". Is there actually a problem w/ installing from SATA-DVD or did you mean to say I must install using SATA-DVD or USB-DVD (and rather it's the onboard IDE that didn't work - which seems to be a common issue)..

Thanks again.. I have a Q6600 as well and am going with GB's P965-DQ6 (as a primo hackintosh mobo) else the P35T-DQ6 (as a decent future-proof mobo).

Josh

:D

Has anybody that is using a mainboard with an ich9r controller run a benchmark test with XBench?

Did you notice a really poor hardrive performance result on XBench?

yes... again I'm assuming the drives are running in SATA+AHCI mode and that all is fine so I'm curious what the sig's all about..

I have the G33M-D2SR board (see sig) and after fooling around with 10.4.10 kexts yesterday, it's running awesome! Great little board and quite quick. Xbench detail below and according to SysProfiler, AHCI mode running NCQ (doubtful but I'm still tweaking..hehehe).

This little hackintosh blows my 20" iMac Core Duo (1st Rev) away. BTW - the best xBench scores I could ever get on the iMac was 105.++

Hi Josh,

a little explanation bout the ICH9 part of my sig.:

When I put the whole thing together and first tried to boot the JaS 10.4.8 DVD in my SATA-DVDR it came up with the "still waiting for root device"-error. I played a bit with the sata modes in bios but nothing resolved it. Then I used an older dvd-drive connected to the IDE port and everything just worked fine.

I also couldn't partition my harddrive connected to the orange sata ports that run through the ICH9 chipset. It only worked connecting the HD to the purple ports that use the Marvell chipset.

Once OSX installed all ports work but booting only from the purple ports.

Activating AHCI mode doesn't change anything regarding compatibility but results in a 10 second longer boottime so I let it on IDE-Mode. The drives throughput wasn't higher on AHCI either. But I didn't use Xbench to check that so there might be an unnoticable increase. (BTW ... where to get XBench from?)

Sorry for my question ... I really NEVER was in any benchmarking of systems. I just worked with them and when things felt to slow I added some RAM oder bought a new system.

Consulting google - well, guess that was to obvious or I was too lazy :-)

Hehe ^^ No need to appologize tho :) And till i got to OSX i'd hardly benchmarked anything at all... But i've seen a lot of skepticism concerning Xbench in this community, so i wouldn't rely on the results too much... I think using the results as inaccurate points of reference is OK, but nothing more than that...
