frEEki
Hi Guys! My name is Marc and i am quite new to this whole topic. I want to build a new custom pc that is capable of running osx. I allready searched through this forum and found many many post dealing with this matter. but none really satisfied me. Can anyone give a "shopping list" of hardware that works out of the box? (or almost. i am not afraid of tweaking A BIT ) Many posts i found where quite old and the hardware listed there is either not available any more or just out dated. So i am quite thankful for any hints you could give me. all i want is a smooth running OSX (without the need to buy an apple) Cheers, Marc (excuse my bad english....) If you find any misspelling you can keep it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56716-what-hardware-to-use/ Share on other sites
sarahbau
I'm not trying to be rude, but how did your searches not come up with more recent posts just like this one? People ask this question every day almost. The best way to find compatible hardware is on the wiki, which has a hardware compatibility list. It's a pretty safe bet that just about any Intel 945 based board will work, since it's what the iMac uses. Look for ones with Intel GMA950 graphics, or get an nVidia 7000 series card (GS or GT for best compatibility). ALC883 or ALC888 is probably the best bet for audio, and any Core 2 Duo will be fine. frEEki
Thanx for the fast answere. I never knew that there was a wiki with HW compatibility. Where can i find this? Concerning the graficcard: i already have a x1950 Pro. will i get this working? otherwise i could use the onboard card. is it QE and CI capable? HCL 10.4.8 - OSx86 The X1950Pro seems to only work for resolution changes, but not for QE/QI (The X1950XT is one of the best cards you can get though) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56716-what-hardware-to-use/#findComment-405108 Share on other sites
frEEki
I just decided to go for an Asrock ConRoe1333-DVI/H with 2GB of RAM and a 6300 CPU. Hopefully this will run OSX.... Anyway... IF i get it running , will it be fully compatible with standard OSX universal binaries?? That setup should be good, but I'm not sure if the DVI will work or not , but you should be able to get drivers for the sound and network. As for "fully compatible," the only way to guarantee that is to get a real Mac. I personally haven't run into any problems, but it's possible there is software out there that just won't run properly on a hackintosh. frEEki
HEHE I just tried to install JAS.10.4.8 on my very old Asrock 939Dual-Sata2 with an a64 3200+ and what can i say... works quite well. out of the box i have everything working but sound and sata. but i guess i will solve those issues some day. i switched me x1950pro with a gf6600gt. works smooth too. Not bad... The guys who released this hickingtosh version deserve my respect. Nice work! i wonder is there are any differences between this and the uphuck version. Anyway... need sata and sound to work and i am happy!
