skanero
hi! i wanted to know if there's a way to synchronize mail on leopard with tiger and backwards. since i started using leopard, mail has became a always on use app, but when i need to use tiger i cant read my accounts. i tried to configure my pop accounts on tiger but every time i download new email i cant see it on leopard. my question is: Can i synchronize the "database" of mail on leopard with tiger? FarmerBob
If, as I just found out, Leopard worked like Tiger and you could alias in your mail database to both OS's, you would not have to worry at all about synchronizing. They'd just be there for both. UNLESS as Apple is fond of doing, and that is updating the database so that they can not be use with previous versions, it'll all work great. What a way to forcefully move your clientele and keep them there. But it won't work. For years I have had my Entourage, iTunes and iPhoto (long before they let you choose) databases on separate hard drives and aliased the files to the folders where the apps would look for them. Well that was the first thing I tried in Leopard, no joy and Goodbye. This is something I concocted with Entourage years ago, but iTunes and iPhoto now let you choose your database. Which failed in Leopard. If this, an allowed operation, doesn't work . . . ? Other than what I hope is simple refinements that need to be made, thus the delay, I have no use for Leopard if you can not alias in databases. I have had to reinstall Tiger way too many times and making backups of it for restoration or safe keeping will only make them severely larger and harder to deal with. Right now a "stripped down-linked"/basic OS backup, compressed, is 6-8 GB. Add 2-6 GB Mail, 50-80 GB music, 50-100 GB photos, you're gonna have one hell of a back up. Whereas, if they're on separate drives and the OS hammers, and it always does, you're safe and your OS backups are much easier to handle. So . . . until that is fixed, my interest is gone. BUT, I am interested, though, in the next release to see if this is fixed. Good luck. It seems no one is making it easy anymore and for what reason, who knows. sg
the leo mail needs to update its mail database if you're using your old ~/Library/mail folder. only thing to really do is use IMAP mail accounts and keep the mail on the server.
