Hello all,

Is it possible to dualboot OSx 86 on a partitioned hardrive, say 10.4.8 the first partition and on the second partition uphucks 10.4.9?

I have SSE2, uphucks is compatible with this, I have 10.4.8 working with just about everything except QE, woud really love to get that going, anyone have any ideas?

My system:

Processor pentium 4 2.4ghz sse2 no sse3

Video Nvidia gforce 4200ti 256mb agp

Sound realtek AC97 working with msi kext (sometimes choppy?)

Motherboard msi ms-6547

Memory is 1gb ram

Hard drives are both ATA

Thanks for any reactions I may recieve, Plucka

Yes to the first poster.

To the second, I can't test (yet) 10.5, but I don't know why it wouldn't be possible.

Hi, would you be willing to share your knowledge with me? I did say that the 2 partitions are on the same HD.

Could you help me please?

Thans, Plucka

It is possible to dual boot different versions of OSX on a Hackintosh, on separate partitions on the same drive. Just make sure that you give different names for the partitions. The last version installed will be the boot drive. To change drives/versions, go into the System Preferences and choose the boot device.

Hello DanS

Thanks very much for the info, one more question though, if I have a lot of apps backed up on my second partition, would installing uphuck on this partition cause my backed up apps to be un readable or unopenable? If so how can I make a third partition for uphuck?

Thanks once again for your help, cheers, Plucka

Of course it's possible. I have Vista, 10.4.6 ad 10.4.9 installed on this laptop. I use Boot Manager from XFDisk to boot, but there are many other ways to do it. As long as every OS is in it's own Primary Partition, there are no problems. Some OSes (XP/2000/Vista) can boot from Extended Partitions also, but OS X must be on a Primary Partition.

In fact, I like having 2 bootable partitions of OS X. It's MUCH easier to fix a problem in one by booting into the other. Things like adding/deleting files, Repairing Permissions, etc are much easier this way.

It also makes tinkering with an OSX86 install much less risky! You can test different drivers, edit plists and stuff without worrying. If you happen to render your install un-bootable (which is VERY easy to do!) you just boot into the other and back out the changes.

Hi all,

Could someone please post some detailed info on how you would go about dualbooting 2 osx's on a single hard drive with 2 partitions. I have one named Tiger and the 2nd one is OSX storage, on the second one I have a lot of Apps backed up that I have downloaded and wanted to keep so that when I have to reinstall I can apply them without searching. Is there a better way, or can a second Osx live happily with all the apps, please help would really like to have an extra version installed for experimenting.

Please reply, and thanks a lot,

Cheers, Plucka
