Hi there

i have for a decent time now osx 10,4,8 installed on my os86 windows pc. I have a pentium 4 650 3,4 gHz processor, 1 gb of ram, and other stuff like bluetooth and wlan.

This all works fine, except for 2 things: I have a soundcard without input (it isn't supported) integrated in my motherboard: MS-7091 (i know it has PCIe) i have firewire 400 and usb 2,0

also i have a ati radeon x740 xl in my pc, which doesn't work with Qe and other stuff. ( i can't import videos in i tunes, cover flow won't work, VLC player doesn't work, ....) My system says i have 0 Vram, and thus i can"t install apps like aperture and final cut

so, my question is

Which graphic card should i buy? and wchich sound card?

i have a budget of 250-300 euro.

i was thinkin of the ati radeon x1600 .. since that is in the macbook pro. Does this card support all the features without having to mess around too much with settings and kexts? of should i buy another one?

for the sound, i have no idea. Any will do, preferably no latency, since i am a music composer, and with decent input signals (no noise)

i only need 1 input, it doesn't matter: 1/4 inch or 1/8 inch, i have both cables.

plz help me

not too sure about the video... you can try to check the hcl:

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...#Graphics_Cards

Most nVidia cards work well with Titan/natit

as for sound, I'm using the Creative Labs Xmod with great results.

Have fun with your new hackintosh!

so, if i buy a nvidia 7300 GT, i will have quartz extreme and video acceleration and core video supported? will it be difficult to install?

thx for the tips, also, the sound card looks good, i'll read some reviews about that one.

I am using an Asus 7300GT I got open-box for like $60.00 last month and it works great with no modifications at all. I like it because it is fanless and silent. I am using 10.4.9 with 8.9.1 kernel. The only problem I have is that every 5 or 6 boots it gets stuck at a low resolution blue screen instead of loading the login window. Restarting is the only option at that point, but it has never done it twice in a row yet. Maybe editing something would fix this problem but it doesn't really bother me much.

Performance is great. I use Final Cut and Sketchup and it does great in both. Full support for all the bells and whistles.

i compose music too and i use an m-audio firewire 410 interface. but before htat i used a creative soundblaster live usb interface. the latency is less than my 300$ m-audio. and it costs about 55 us $. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16829102174

i'm gonna buy the 7300 GT from ASUS and for audio card i will either buy the miglia harmonyaudio or the creative soundblaster.

thx for your hulp.

can someon plz post a quick tutorial on how to install the graph card, preferably without needing to reinstall osx (if i have to, i will reinstall it, but preferably not) or a link to a web page.

ok, i ordered the miglia firewire audio, it should come within 2 weeks.

but for the gfx card. Untill now i had a ati x740 xl. So if i install a 7300 GT now, will it work? will my chipset be compatible (to be honest, i don't know what a chipset is, but i think it is from ati also)

or should i buy the x1600xt ?

this is my last question, after this, i am gonna install everything.

if you know a topic on installing, or just have som tips, the x1600 or 7300 gt in a mac without having to reinstall the os, but with working QE and CI, plz post it here. i am a noob at mac osx

The chipset on your motherboard has very little to do with how well the graphics card will work for you. As long as your motherboard supports the type of video card you are purchasing (PCIE or AGP) then you can choose either nvidia or ATi at your discretion. I think the ATi x1600 is more powerful than the nvidia 7300 GT, but I am no expert on GPUs. Look for some reviews online to make your choice. Either one should do quartz extreme and core image nicely for you.

I had bad luck a while back with ATi and osx86 but I think that has been corrected. I chose the 7300 GT because it was cheap and the base model in stock mac pros, but the ATi card is really nice too.

thx, i am starting to understand it now.

so i gonna buy eihter the 7300 gt or the 7600 gt, i will see if there is one in stock and what the price difference is.

the sound card is already ordered: a miglia harmonyaudio firewire device. very good and "only" 150.

is there a way of installing the 7x00 GT without having to reinstall osx, but with working QE and IC? if so, plz post a link to a tut, or give some tips,

if not, can i just install it with my version of osx, it is JaS 10.4.7, with the customize options?

you really already helped me alot guys, only the installation bothers me now. Thx

Why would you have to reinstall OS X just because you're switching video cards? Just take out the old one and remove any extra drivers you may have added, and install Titan or Natit for the 7x00. I switched from an X800 to a 7600GT with no problems at all.

really? is it that easy? at winblows, my whole system crashed once for changing my ram and video card. Guess it was windows fault then, stupid windows :P

just one single question, do i install Titan or natit? and do i install it before or after switching cards?
