After ugrade to MAXXUSS 8F1111A my system profiler and console is showing:

"Mac OS X Version 10.4.3 (Build 8F1111g)"

Anybody else has same information ?

Mine, too. I have a feeling Maxxuss has marked each of the 3 different patches with different letters for identifying which kernel you are running. That's my guess. But, yes, mine says 8f1111g as well.

Are you running the SSE3 emulation patch, or the real SSE3 patch?

I'm using the original unpatched kernel (P4 630 && Asrock 915GL) and I mine says "g" as well. I don't know what the g means but I'm going to try the G4 version of Q3 to see if it runs...

Yep, it runs. AltiVec is working. I'm still getting the annoying mouse lag though. I don't get this in other Q3-based games such as RCW, so I'm guessing it's supposed to work like this (I've had this problem with prior releases as well). Anyhoo, it works.

Forget about the mouse lag. It was only because I was trying to run the game @ 1280x1024. 1024x768 was the highest I could go without getting the problem. I guess it's probably a bug of some sort. I know the GMA 900 is bad, but it can't be that bad.

In Windows, I get over 100 FPS in Unreal Tournament, and similar in Quake 3.

I haven't tried the Mac OS versions, yet.

See my sig for my specs.

I'm not surprised. The Mac version was running through Rosetta. It's wierd though. @ 1024x768 and lower it's like it's so fast you can't even tell it's being emulated, but at 1280x1024, the game becomes almost unplayable. There is an Intel compiled version of Quake III but I couldn't get it to work for some reason. I get an error message that says "interface version 3, expected 6" or something like that.

That error means you need to have pak0.pk3 and all the .pk3 files from the latest (1.32b I believe) quake 3 point release in the same directory. The best way I found to get them was to download the linux point release, install it on linux, then copy the .pk3 files over to macos. (I tried the mac point release but Stuffit Expander gave an error when trying to to decompress the file.)

  • 3 weeks later...
havnt we been thru this already?

the "g" starting showing up after one of the newer Maxxuss' Kernel's... (i think?)

...

I think you might be right. At first I thought the only difference in 8F1111a was the OAh files, and that I was running the original unhacked kernel from the 8F1111 release, but then I noticed that mach_kernel was now visible. I made a .hidden file to hide it again, but I guess it's probably a new kernel.

EDIT: I found out where the version string comes from. It comes from /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist. The Maxxuss package updater updates this file so I guess Maxxuss did this intentionally. If you prefer 8F1111a, you can change it here.

I think with 4.2 Stuffit crashes. The original kernel from Jas patch (SSE3 emulator 3.0 didn't crash stuffit). Didn't test this too much, but I think this would be the problem. Has the crash log any relevance? I can upload it.

I have the original 8F1111 on which I replaced only the oah files, then upgraded to 8F1111a, so I don't know if what I'm going to say will apply. In my case, you would see the stuffit progress bar go to completion, but there would be no unstuffed file. To fix this I unchedked "Continue to expand if possible" in Stuffit's preferences. For some reason this made the problem disappear. Hope this helps.
