WAK47
Hey, I was considering getting a Dell Inspiron 1520, which has very similar specs to the Macbook Pro, and installing OSX on it. However, I was just wondering how fast a Inspiron would be compared to a similary configured Macbook Pro... Would the MBP be any faster, even if they had pretty much the same specs? Would it have a better battery life? I'm very new to the whole OSx86 genre so I'd appreciate any help. Thanks! bptba93
The MBP would be more stable, and supported by Apple. MBP would probably be faster, OS X is optimized for it. I have no clue about that battery power though. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56396-speed-compared-to-mbmbp/#findComment-403132 Share on other sites
WAK47
So how compatible do you think OS X would be with an Inspiron 1520? It has the following specs: Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2Ghz 2 GB DDR2 667 MHz RAM 1680x1050 15.4" Screen 256MB GeForce Go 8600M GT 160GB SATA HD Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini-Card Thanks for your help! bptba93
It looks pretty compatible, not sure about the graphics and wireless. Check on the forum about them. Windows RG
Graphics should work with the latest version of Natit. just replace the device ID's. it would be very comparable to MBP if graphics work well and QE/CI are enbled. use xbench to compare your score. a MBP runs around 140-150. but ive seen C2D Hackintosh machines get to 240. You probrably wont get wireless working unfortunately. but there may e drivers. you can get a USB airport card from apple. but look for drivers first for your card. WAK47
In your opinion, would you recommend that I purchase a Macbook (Not Pro, 2.16Ghz 2GB RAM) over the above mentioned Inspiron laptop? They're basically the same price but the Inspiron has a much better video card and display. bptba93
depends on if you're planning on gaming, if you're not a gaming it shouldn't matter. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56396-speed-compared-to-mbmbp/#findComment-403733 Share on other sites
