Hey all,

I just installed a dell truemobile 1490 wifi card (Broadcom 4311) into my HP dv6000. It was detected as an Airport extreme on boot, and I went on to configure it. When I selected my network and entered my password, it returned this error: "There was an error joining the AirPort network XXXXXX." Oddly, the card shows available signal under vista, but also refuses to connect. Could my card be defective? Or is this an OSX/configuration related issue?

Thanks in advance.

Exactly which model DV6000 ? I thought all HP DV6000 models had a BIOS block which prevents using non-HP cards ? See <http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=31474&pid=339537&mode=threaded&start=#entry339537>. AFAIK, such a "whitelist" block prevents booting with the card installed, so perhaps you don't have the block in your particular model, or have already bypassed it.

Assuming the network is yours, I'd turn off your network security temporarily and see if that solves the problem in OSX and/or Vista. If you still can't connect, then you may have a defective card.

You may also want to check the seating of your '1490 card and the (tiny) antenna connections.
