MikeBee Posted July 6, 2007 Share Posted July 6, 2007 Hi everyone, I'm trying to find a new laptop (in the UK) for running Mac OS X. In all honesty I'm not impressed with the MacBook as the screens are low resolution and I don't get on with either the trackpad or the single button click thing.... Currently running a Dell D600 (Pentium M 1.6 1Gb RAM ATi Mobility 9000 with 1400x1050 screen). Screen resolution must be 1280x1024 minimum - preferable 1400x1050. Must be at least a Core Duo - preferably Core 2 Duo. Looking probably at second hand laptop (been scouring ebay UK). Must run OS X with QE/CI and wireless. Must have a keyboard track stick (ie. thinkpads, dell latitudes and some HPs) as track pads are a no go for me. Any ideas? Thanks! MBP's have 1400x1050 and core 2 duo Must be at least a Core Duo - preferably Core 2 Duo. lmfao theres no such thing as a Core Dou only Core 2 Dou. but you prolly want a hackintosh so heres some good notes Make sure it has a 945 or 975 intel chipset, these produce the best results. if you have that chipset then all is well. all should work except built in wireless wich is impossible so get a good usb card. Of course it may be that Intel's web site is telling fibs about a previous 'Core Duo' processor that they made...... I have built in wireless at the moment using a Broadcom BCM4306 mini-pci card, which is a much neater solution than a USB card (stick?). In all honesty (as I said in my top post) I am not impressed by the real Apple laptops. The Macbook Pros are too bulky and the regular Macbooks have crappy keyboards and small resolution screens..... Sure they are obviously the best for hardware compatibility, but it's not what I want...... Short list is Dell D620 or D830. HP NX7400, NW8440. bptba93 Posted July 8, 2007 Share Posted July 8, 2007 Yes there indeed was a Core Duo, when the first Intel Mac Minis, they had Core Duo and Core Solo. I want a MB/MBP not really for it's looks but just for the Operating System, which is the way I'm sure most people around here feel.
