This has been going on for awhile now. I don't know why it happens, and I honestly don't know how, but sometimes when I install applications and then run them, they never start. (for example, double clicking a shortcut to Graal to have the mouse look like it's loading and then after it's done -- nada)

This has just happened with Azureus. I tried to start it, it said it was loading, and then nothing happened afterwards. I'd really like to know what's going on, and if possible, not to have to uninstall and reinstall because I'm not sure if my options in there will be the same. I've been using it for awhile now and then it randomly decided to not start; I even went into its program folder and tried running the application itself, not the shortcut, and I still got nothing. Heck, I even made a new shortcut.

Can someone help me? I'll provide you with whatever information about my computer, what I'm running, etc., if it's needed.

Currently I'm running a Dell Dimension E510, Microsoft Windows XP SP2, Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80 GHz, 512 MB RAM, RADEON X300/X550 series.

Firewall is ZoneAlarm Pro, virus scanner is Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0.

Any and all help is appreciated. ^.^'

Lol xD

But yes, in fact, I do those things pretty frequently. Right now I'm running a virus scan, but half the time it turns up empty or with some dumb little doubleclick or castale media thing. . . I'll try and run CCleaner now, see what it finds.

EDIT: Ran CCleaner, Azureus still refuses to run.

If you had a dual core I would blame it on that, sometimes when you launch an application it will take a while because it gets assigned to another core or something like that. I have never heard of the application completely not starting... maybe you could uninstall and reinstall?

Often the 'silent exit' problem stems from incorrect links to dynamically loaded components. Try running XP Repair Pro and Registry Mechanic, they're both good programs which fix a lot of system errors. Each, however, misses some things the other finds. A couple of passes of each with reboots inbetween can fix a lot of mysterious problems. A sure way of finding out if a program has 'lost' some of its components is to look in the task manager. If the program you started is shown as there and running, but nothing appeared on screen, it's probably hung because some DLL or other is missing, corrupt or confilicting and the program never bothered to tell you.

Also, check your HDD. A bad area can cause programs to misload silently. Get a copy of Spinrite and run it. It will find, report and fix most HDD errors. You can find all these programs online, but if you use them and they fix your problem, buy them. They are really worth the small amount they cost (and XP Repair Pro has a sting in the tail if you use a pirate version when you're connected to the internet, be warned!).
